A Sunday Feast of Links and Apologies

Sometimes, I feel like this blog gets a bit away from me. I have lots of things to write about that I don’t get to, questions asked in the comments that I never respond to, or posts that need a follow-up post but never quite get one (this is why we have no children yet – I’m worried I might do a good job getting a baby here, but then sort of forget to care for it after that).

For example, remember that time in December when I asked which Dodge car you liked better? The whole point of that post was to follow-up with the story about how we got the Caliber when we went to rent a car and got only 1/2 a mile before Bart decided he loathed it and we needed to go get something different (they gave us the Avenger instead which he much preferred although didn’t love). But did I tell that? No, I left many of you wondering why I was showing you two pictures of Dodges. My apologies. (For the record, I liked the Caliber better).

Also, a few people asked for the granola recipe and now, here it is:

3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1 cup sweetened flaked coconut
¼ cup vegetable oil
1/4 tsp almond extract
1/3 cup packed dark brown sugar
¼ cup mild honey
Pinch cinnamon
Pinch salt

Preheat oven to 375°F. Stir together all ingredients in a large bowl until combined. Spread mixture evenly on a cookie sheet and bake, stirring occasionally, until golden brown, 30 to 35 minutes, but checking every five minutes after the 15-minute mark because it burns quickly. Transfer granola, in pan, to rack to cool stirring occasionally, about 45 minutes.

I got the recipe from my favorite recipe blog ever, Smitten Kitchen. If you take a look at her recipe, you’ll see that mine is the barest bones version of it ever – I’ve taken out all the nuts (because I don’t like them) and all the dried fruits (because they are too expensive and I never have them on hand).

And are you artistic? Because I’m about as artistic as dirt. Art is one of those things that I avoid because it just frustrates me since I have absolutely no ability. If you like to look at art, though, as I do on occasion, here are two places you may want to check out:

Merrick’s Art. Merrick is my sister and she just recently started up this blog. She’s pretty amazing. She doesn’t have many pictures up yet, but the stuff she does have up is quite nifty.
Have a gander (did I just say “gander?”)

Can You Hear Me. Sami married one of my husband’s good friends and I first met her at a get together of Bart’s friends with accompanying girlfriends, fiances, and wives. I instantly liked Sami for what might be the stupidest reason ever – she is the same age as me. Bart is about five years older than me (as were all these friends and most of their wives), so I was pretty thrilled not to be the only one who had graduated from high school in a different millennium. Dumb, isn’t it? She’s in a graduate program in art in Oregon and does some lovely work also.

So yes, I’m going to try and stay a little more on top of things this year. Wish me luck!

I have been neglecting my blog, too! I’m hoping it’s just a phase that I’ll snap out of soon. Good to hear from you though!

Thanks for linking me on here! My plan is to comment on people’s blogs so that they’ll check mine out, but I haven’t done that at all yet, so maybe this will get me some more traffic!

And I really want to make that granola. And double the syrup like the good ol’ days 🙂

I think you have done a great job with your blog. It is a treat to read. Just keep doing what you’ve been doing. (I’m sure school, etc. will take quite a bit of time and effort, so I wouldn’t worry if you don’t do all the blogging you would like.)

Did I miss the reveal of what you wore to your office holiday dinner? I was gunning for the green dress…
