6 Books I’m Currently Reading
The cold winter months make me want to snuggle up with a book even more than usual, whether on my own or with my girls.
Here are the six books I’m currently in the middle of:
6 Books I’m Currently Reading
Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane
I’ve seen this book over and over again since it came out and finally picked up a copy – family drama set over 40 years between two neighboring families? Count me in. I’m only a few chapters in, so it’s too early to say, but so far I’m really enjoying it.
The Trees Kneel at Christmas by Maud Hart Lovelace
We just finished Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets over the weekend, so it was finally time to dive into our Christmas read-aloud. This one was recommended to me on Instagram and since I LOVE the author’s Betsy-Tacy books, it wasn’t a hard sell for me to pick up this Christmas novel from the library.
The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson
During the discussion of Last Christmas in Paris, I asked for WWI book recommendations and this was by far the most common suggestion. And my library handily had it on audio with no wait, so I dove right in.
Royal Holiday by Jasmine Guillory
I published my Christmas books for grownups list last month, but I’ve continued to read more holiday titles to put me in the Christmas spirit and this one got mentioned a LOT. I just started it, so I can’t make any promises about how steamy (or not steamy) it is . . . it’s always a gamble with anything with a “romance” label on it.
Indistractable: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life by Nir Eyal
This feels like just the right sort of book to read going into the holidays and then the new year. I started this one and then didn’t finish it before it was due back at the library. Fortunately it was less than $5 on Kindle, so I just bought my own copy.
Betsy & Billy by Carolyn Haywood
This is my current read-aloud with Star during our preschool (we read the first book in the series, B is for Betsy, back in September and she LOVED it, so she’s been delighted to return to these characters). Her blog name is also based on the baby born in this book and when I told her that, she was THRILLED.
And if you’d like a printable copy of this list that you can take to your library or screenshot on your phone for easy access, just pop in your email address below and it’ll come right to your inbox!
I’d love to hear what you’re reading lately! Let me know in the comments or over on Instagram!
My in-progress and TBR lists are officially out of control right now, so I’m forcing myself to finish those in-progress before I add anything else to my TBR.
That said, I just finished the third book of the Harley Merlin series. I started reading it because it was compared to Harry Potter. I can’t say that I see a lot of similarities between them, but so far I’m enjoying them. There are 11 books all total so I’ve got quite a ways to go.
I’m currently in the middle of The Snow Gypsy by Lindsay Ashford. It’s a post WWII book with ties to the Spanish Civil War, as well. I’m about halfway done. It’s moving along slowly and has more internal dialogue than I was prepared for, but I’m invested and want to know if they find the brother that’s been missing for 8 years.
I’m also reading The Titanic Secret by Clive Cussler. It’s an Isaac Bell detective story that has a little bit of a Dirk Pitt crossover. I’ve been a Dirk Pitt fan since middle school and discovered Isaac Bell earlier this year. Cussler is probably my favorite modern author. Always my go-to author recommendation.
