4 Books I’m Currently Reading (+ what my team is reading!)

Most of my reading this month has been The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion – I started the series last year and it took me a while to get into it, but then I blew through books 5-8 and then read the whole series AGAIN.

I definitely am WAY too into this series.

And here are some of the other books I’m reading right now:

destiny of the republic

Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President by Candice Millard
This is the February title for Everyday Reading Book Club and I’m enjoying it SO MUCH – it is absolutely fascinating and full of things I knew literally nothing about. Someone told me think this might be the best book I’ve EVER chosen for book club which is high praise indeed.

My Salty Mary by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows
I LOVED My Lady Jane (and actually passed it on to my 14 year old to read earlier this year) but I couldn’t even get through My Plain Jane. But now, several years later, I’ve heard good things about this one so I picked it for my free audiobook from Amazon Music Unlimited this month. So far I’m really enjoying it!

wink book

Wink by Rob Harrell
After I mentioned that Ella was loving Jordan Sonnenblick’s books, someone recommended this middle grade title to me which has been on my radar for a while. I’m reading it during our daily family reading time as part of homeschool and I’ve really liked it so far. It’s fiction but generally inspired by the author’s experience with a rare cancer.

the house witch book

The House Witch by Delemhach
I’m always on the lookout for more books to add to my super popular “Halloween Books for Adults” list and this one was a recent recommendation that was happily available on Kindle Unlimited. Stay tuned in September or October to see if it makes the list!

The wedding people

The Wedding People by Alison Espach
I used one of my Audible credits for this book and I’m so glad I did! Phoebe arrives at the fancy Cornwall Inn, dressed to the nines. Her only goal while being there is to enjoy the beautiful hotel, the delicious food and end the night in suicide. Lyla, a complete stranger to Phoebe, is also staying at the Cornwall, but instead is there to have the best wedding week of her life and she can’t have her wedding day be destroyed by Phoebe’s plan. This book is both parts hilarious and charming.

A Queen’s Game by Katharine McGee
I really loved her American Royals series, and this YA historical romance is just as fun! It is inspired by three real European princesses vying for the hearts of two future kings during the Victorian era. (I really enjoyed looking up more historical information about each of the characters – and boy, did I learn a lot!) There is no shortage of drama, love triangles, royal politics, and closed-door romance!

Jennifer

Born to Run by Christopher McDougall
I’ve recently gotten back into running since having my third baby six months ago. I’ve always loved running and really miss it when I’m pregnant and immediately postpartum. This nonfiction book has been a fun read and fascinating to learn about the Tarahumara Indians who are natural long distance runners.

How to Stay Married by Harrison Scott Key
This book was highly recommended to me but as I read it, I wasn’t really sure if I liked it (although it was very very funny). However, by the time I finished, I was all in. Harrison Scott Key tells the story of how his marriage survived his wife’s infidelity. His perspective confirmed my belief that all marriages are challenging in their own way, but that’s because they are supposed to be. It’s supposed to be difficult and transformative to deeply love another person through the good and bad over a lifetime together.
