5 Holiday Books I’m Planning to Read This December

I’ve been going HARD on Christmas books this year in my personal reading.

It kicked off with One Foggy Christmas and then I read two other Christmas books by the same author in quick succession (The Holiday Stand-In and Later On We’ll Conspire).

And I’m not done yet – I’ve got a whole line up of fun holiday books to get me through December!

Here are the holiday books that I’m hoping to get to this month (while I work on some festive puzzles if they’re audiobooks!):

holiday books for adults
the most wonderful crime of the year book

The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year by Ally Carter
This is the #1 book on my personal Christmas reading list this year. I read and loved her romance thriller The Blonde Identity earlier this year (it snagged a spot on the Summer Reading Guide!) and the reviews have been so strong on this one that I couldn’t wait to pick it up. I chose it as one of my December Book of the Month books (you can get it for $5 and free shipping with the code TINSEL).

the bells on finland street book

The Bells on Finland Street by Lyn Cook
I’d actually never heard of this book before but someone recommended it as a Christmas read aloud and the reviews raved about it, so I ordered a used copy and I’ll be reading it aloud to my girls this December. Reading a holiday book aloud during December is one of my favorite traditions – if you need some ideas, I have a whole post of titles here!

christmas with a crank book

Christmas With a Crank by Courtney Walsh
I’ve been blowing through sweet holiday romances in the past month and this one is up next for me! (As a bonus, I also grabbed Merry Ex-Mas from her on Kindle Unlimited because it has been raved about SO MUCH by my Instagram community!)

the afterlife of holly chase book

The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand
I’ve seen this around for the last year or two but this is the year for me to pick up this YA retelling of A Christmas Carol (it is by one of the authors who did My Lady Jane which I absolutely LOVE).

comfort and joy book

Comfort & Joy by Kristin Hannah
This was on my list of holiday books to read last year and I didn’t get to it, but I’m determined not to miss it this year! I love Kristin Hannah’s historical fiction books but I’ve never read some of her older books back when she mostly wrote contemporary fiction.

I’d love to hear what holiday reads are on your TBR this season!

  1. Gosh these are tempting! I had a plan for what I wanted to get read before the holidays but this sounds nice! Maybe I’ll add one of them into this years line up and plan to be more intentional next year in December for my reading.
    Thanks for sharing!

  2. I have Comfort & Joy on my list to read this December too (and due to library return dates, it’s next for me)! My sister in law recommended it to me last Christmas Eve and I’ve been saving it for this holiday season!

  3. Christmas Karol by Faith Moore is another retelling of A Christmas Carol. It’s about a busy mother who learns that it’s not too late to focus on the most important things in her life. I loved it!
