Weekend Book Deals to Kick Off October

This week, I went with Ani on our inaugural one-on-one trip together (I did one to NYC with Ella when she was in sixth grade!). We had the best time and I’ll share more details in an upcoming post!

Now I’m back home and trying to get back in the swing of things – this is such a busy time of year for me, work-wise!

Here are some of the book deals I’m most excited about this weekend!

(And don’t miss the free 3 month deal for Kindle Unlimited – it’s only going on for a few days, so grab it while you can)

The Rom-Commers

The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center
I love Katherine Center (her books have snagged Summer Reading Guide spots on multiple occasions) and I think this might be my new favorite of hers about a woman who gets hired to help rewrite a screenplay with her screenwriter idol. Will sparks fly? OF COURSE THEY WILL.

demon copperhead

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver
Inspired by Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield, this coming-of-age story is about a boy growing up in poverty in Appalachia. It explores experiences in foster care, addiction, and the challenges faced by those living in rural areas.

the last year of the war

The Last Year of the War by Susan Meissner
I loved her book As Bright As Heaven a few years ago and this book deal was the perfect excuse to read another one of her books – this one is about the internment camps in the US during WWII.

good girl bad blood book

Good Girl, Bad Blood by Holly Jackson
This is the sequel to the October book for Everyday Reading Book Club (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder) and so far I’m loving it – it’s a perfect listen for October as Pip unwillingly picks back up her detective hat when the older brother of a friend goes missing and the police refuse to do anything about it.

Boy: Tales of Childhood by Roald Dahl
Roald Dahl books are full of wackiness, silliness and he can pull it off! My girls have listened to a ton of his books and loved every magical, crazy second of them. This one is extra fun because it is the autobiographical account of his childhood!

hidden valley road

Hidden Valley Road: Inside the Mind of an American Family by Robert Kolker
After reading Empire of Pain last year for book club, someone suggested this to me as another compelling narrative non-fiction read and when I read the description, I was very intrigued – a family with 6 of their 12 children being diagnosed with schizophrenia, and the researchers investigating the genetic origins.

magical animals adoption agency book

Clover’s Luck by Kallie George
Clover stumbles across the Magical Animal Adoption Agency in the woods where she is hired as a summer helper to care for fairies, horses, unicorns, and a fiery young dragon. Will she be brave enough to keep these magical animals safe?

the labors of hercules beal

The Labors of Hercules Beal by Gary D. Schmidt
After Hercules Beal loses his parents in an accident, his older brother leaves behind his career to come back and raise Hercules and manage the family business. When the new school year starts, Hercules’ new teacher assigns the students a year-long project of recreating the labors of the mythical Hercules. It’s going to be a BIG task! This one is funny, heartbreaking and tender – exactly what you’d expect from Gary D. Schmidt.
