Today is the day!

The 2019 Summer Reading Guide is live and it’s time to max out your library card or fill up your Kindle (or visit your bookstore or borrow these titles from a friend). However you get your hands on these titles, these are all great books to read this summer.

This is the fifth Summer Reading Guide and every year, I spend months reading new releases and looking through backlists to find just the right titles for your summer reading list.

Every last one of these books is great for whatever your summer looks like, whether it’s jet-setting off to an exotic destination or staying home at the neighborhood pool.

Like the last two years, the summer reading guide includes six categories with four books per category.

For each book included on the summer reading guide, I share a short description of the book so you can quickly decide whether it’s something you’ll love.

As usual, I included a mix of new releases and older titles because I think it’s deeply annoying when I go to my library to request titles from a book list and every. single. book. has a request line 100 people long.

Who wants to wait until January for all your summer reading titles to come up on hold?

Whether you’re looking for breezy chick-lit, gripping non-fiction titles, memoirs you hope never end, audiobooks to entertain you during a long trip or a book to read aloud with your children, I hope the 2019 Summer Reading Guide helps you find a book (or lots of books!) that will make your summer reading the best ever.

AND for the first time, we’ve created a printable version of the Summer Reading Guide – it has all the book titles, covers and descriptions in one handy place, plus a single page with all 24 titles that you can print out and take with you to the library or bookstore or use to mark off the books as you read them! I hope it’ll make it even easier to have the best summer of reading ever. Just pop your email in the form below and it’ll come right to your inbox:

  1. Love the summer reading list — getting the kids prepped and my book list together is what launches my summer. Thanks for doing the work on this!!!!

  2. I generally feel like we have similar reading tastes and so I added TOO MANY of these to my list. Hoping I magically get more time to read in the summer than usual!
