How to Gift Kindle Unlimited
I love gifting something that keeps on giving and a Kindle Unlimited subscription is exactly that kind of gift!
If you have a book lover in your life, a Kindle Unlimited subscription is a perfect choice. Kindle Unlimited is such a great way to access millions of ebooks to read on your Kindle ereader or the Kindle app on your phone or tablet.
If you don’t know exactly how Kindle Unlimited works, here’s a quick rundown: It’s a monthly subscription that gives you access to a massive library of more than two million Kindle books (ebooks). With the subscription you can read as many books as you want from the Kindle Unlimited library.
You don’t own these titles when your subscription ends – think of it more like Netflix for books.
AND a Kindle Unlimited subscription includes some books with Audible narration, available for thousands of the titles (you can see all the ones with narration here). You’ll also see a little headphones icon on Amazon if it includes narration.

It’s super simple to gift Kindle Unlimited and I’ll show you step-by-step directions to do it!
But first, a couple of things to know about gifting Kindle Unlimited.
- You don’t need to be a Kindle Unlimited member to give Kindle Unlimited as a gift. As long as you’re logged in with your Amazon account, you’ll have all the options for gifting I’ll describe below.
- The person you are giving the Kindle Unlimited subscription to does not need to own a Kindle. They can use the free Kindle app on their phone or tablet and read any Kindle Unlimited books (or any other Kindle books they buy). That said, I LOVE my Kindle Reader and can’t recommend one highly enough. I wrote a whole post about why I love my Kindle here and why I think it’s worth buying.
- You cannot use an Amazon gift card to gift Kindle Unlimited. The only payment option they give when purchasing Kindle Unlimited as a gift is a credit card.
With that out of the way, here’s are the step-by-step directions for how to gift Kindle Unlimited.
How to Gift Kindle Unlimited
- Go to the Kindle Unlimited Gift Subscription page here.
- Next select the monthly plan you want to gift. 6, 12, or 24 month plan are the current options. Select Continue.
- You will then enter in the recipient’s email address and the date you want the Kindle Unlimited gift delivered.
- They do give you the option to enter in your own email address if you don’t know the recipient’s email address at the time. The activation will then be sent to you, which you can forward on to the gift receiver later
- Add in your personalized message.
- Click “Continue to Payment.”
- From there you will enter in your credit card information and your Kindle Unlimited gift is on the way!
- The recipient will then receive an email on the delivery date you selected, with instructions on how to redeem their Kindle Unlimited gift!

I gift myself kindle unlimited because it has made it cheaper than doing the monthly plan. Then immediately after I activate the gift, I cancel the membership so it will not auto renew when my term is over. I did a 24 month a while back, and I’m currently on a 6 month.
