Going the Distance

Over the Memorial Day holiday, our church had a free 5K and 10K on Saturday morning.

After a lot of wishy-washy talk on my part, I finally decided to run the 5K.

Despite it being the morning after school let out, there was a pretty good crowd.

Bart decided to run with me, and he pushed Ella in the jogging stroller while I carried the baby.

The four of us finished with a time of 28:50.

Yes, four!

December 2nd, 2012!
We are pretty excited:
Even if Ella thinks a doughnut for breakfast is way more exciting than a new sibling

  1. Oh, congratulations, Janssen!!!! I think I did exactly what I was supposed to do… I think "Wait, she carried the baby? Isn't Ella the baby? Wait, four of us?! Is she saying what I think she's saying…!?" 😀 Well done. And hooray!!!!!

  2. Uh…I just got caught up after our week away, and I AM SO FREAKIN' EXCITED FOR YOU THAT I'M USING CAPS AAAAAAND DRAGGING OUT WORDS AND EUPHEMISMS I'M MORALLY OPPOSED TO STARTING WITH 'F'.

ps. I wasn't originally super excited about Ginny being a December baby (who ended up being a Thanksgiving baby), but in the end, it was the perfect time for a newborn! Hope the same holds true for you 🙂

  4. Ha, Abby you described it perfectly. I'm like Is she carrying a baby doll…scroll down look for a picture, four of us, what…oh ok lol.

  7. Congratulations! I was really confused with this sentence, "he pushed Ella in the jogging stroller while I carried the baby." Clever post.

  8. What a fun way to announce it! The first reference made me do a double-take, but I put 2 and 2 together pretty quick! 🙂 Congratulation to the three (four) of you! (Also, you run a 5K with a baby faster than me without a baby. You rock!)

  9. Woo hoo! Congratulations so much! I had this FEELING that this announcement was coming and I was right! I am very excited for you guys.

  10. Congratulations! I really had to keep re-reading, trying to figure out why you would say that you were carrying the baby and there were four of you. Thank goodness you explained it to this absent-minded pregnant lady!

Also, I'm a little jealous that you get to be pregnant with your sister and have babies so close!

  11. What wonderful news! Congratulations to all! (ps, just met your sister in the airport on Tuesday 🙂

  12. Congratulations!!! And how exciting to be pregnant with Merrick. It is so much fun being pregnant with your sister and having little cousin babies the same age.

  13. So exciting!!! I'm totally trying to figure out the math on my fingers to tell how many weeks you are. You are so tiny, I was totally showing at 10 weeks with LE.

  14. Congratulations! (I totally thought I was having reading comprehension problems with the "…and I carried the baby" sentence, but the realization came along quickly.) So exciting!

  15. YAYYYY congratulations!! I was JUST wondering when I read your last post if you might have an announcement for us sometime soon. I'm so excited for you! And I can't WAIT to hear what you name this new family member!

  16. I am so glad. You make beautiful babies and so it is your duty to bring another into the world! And cheers to you and Merrick- and all the family!

  17. This is the best announcement ever! Congratulations!!! On the bebe, obviously, but also on running a 5k. 🙂

  18. Way to 5k it with a baby! I totally think Bart had the easy job here (…in so many ways…).

Should you, Sherry and I discuss timing for child #3 or assume it will happen in sync again?

    1. I don't think we can have this perfect of timing for our respective #3s without discussing it first. Clearly a tri-family counsel is in order.

  19. I re-read this sentence multiple times "Bart decided to run with me, and he pushed Ella in the jogging stroller while I carried the baby." and looked back at the picture to see if you were babysitting someone's baby. Then, being the quick one that I am, I realized what you were getting at. Congratulations! What happy news. I was hoping you would have an announcement like this soon. And it's so fun that you and Merrick keep having babies around the same time. Your kids will love that as they grow up!

  20. Like Emily Kate, I had to reread that sentence about carrying the baby. I even looked at the picture again a few times. Ha! I am so quick on the uptake. 🙂

CONGRATULATIONS! I am so happy for you. You guys are such a sweet little family–I am so happy for you to welcome one more to your crew.

  21. YAYYYY! 🙂 Love this post so much. Also, congrats on your time! I'm very impressed you managed sub-10 minute miles while pregnant.

Also again – there's just something about toddlers in onesies that makes me giggle because it's so cute.

  22. Yay babies!! So excited for you! So fun that you and Merrick continue to have kids so close together! You are going to be pretty pregnant when we come visit you in October and I am SO excited!! =D Congrats!

  23. So exited for you guys! I'm sad I'll miss it but I'll come back and visit! by the way you don't even look almost 4 months pregnant!

  24. In a world of cheesy and over the top baby reveal blog posts (which I will probably indulge in myself for the next one 🙂 ) this was refreshingly original and fits who you are so well. Congrats!

  25. You guys are so cute. NO JOKE, earlier this week I was thinking, "Hmm… I bet Janssen's pregnant." That's all. Maybe it was the tweet about needing a cookie to revive you after falling asleep on the couch that tipped me off. Haha, or not, since… that's something I regularly do and I'm not pregnant. 😉

Seriously, though – congrats. You are the cutest mom.

  26. Yaaaaayyyyyy!!!!!!!!! Congratulations! I can't wait to hear more pregnancy updates! And very sneaky reveal – I love it!

  27. This was GOOD. I was super confused.

Congratulations to you guys!! I hope you're feeling well!!!

And I'm seriously impressed that you ran a 5k in your second (?) trimester. Amazing.

  28. GAH!!! Oh this makes me so happy! What an adorable post, I love it! When you said, "while I carried the baby," I had a fleeting thought: no way – she RAN while holding Ella?!? But that was instantly replaced with the realization of what was really coming and I suddenly wished you were my next door neighbor so I could run over and give you a congratulatory hug. YAY!!!

  29. I'm BUBBLING over with excitment!! Just BUBBLING! Congratulations! And that picture of you with your arms spread wide open…LOVE IT!

  30. I tried to comment from my phone earlier, but I don't see it here, so I guess it didn't go through- Congratulations!! That is such great news!

  31. Congratulations!! I'm sure you'll keep us updated. And don't worry, I think more immediate excitement about a doughnut is par for the course. 🙂

  32. Ahhh! I went back to reread the line about carrying the baby to see if you were jogging while holding a friend's child in the baby bjorn. But alas, on completing the reading, my happy hopes were confirmed! Huge congrats to you!

  33. I also had to do the "reread" a few times before I caught on. Then I was instantly excited for you. And then I was instantly full of impressivement (it's a word)that your pregnant 5k is my non pregnant 5k best.

  34. Congrats, Janssen! Although I am a bit concerned – if Baby #2 is half as cute as Ella, I might fall down dead with the compounding adorableness.

  35. Congrats!!! It's so obvious you guys are going to make all beautiful children. Loved the cute way you announced the exciting news.

  36. Congrats Janssen! A very lucky baby he/she will be too! I kept thinking as I was reading it….what baby? What in the world is she talking about? Yes, I'm a little slow sometimes! Love you!

  37. How did I miss this POST?! Yipeeee! Congrats! I had a feeling this was coming soon 🙂 Bet its another girl!

  38. ok, i know i say this all the time and i know there's more to life than being cute, but seriously, ella is soooooooo cute! she kills me.

    congrats on baby number 2!!!

  39. Gahhhh! I am SO SO excited for you guys! You are such a stinker, trying to slip in that little "four." Can't wait for this little one to get such fantastic people as parents.
