A Night at Cocoa Cinnamon

One of the things that’s been especially fun about Bart doing an MBA is the group of wives I’ve become friends with. I’ve never been great at making new friends, so I’ve been really grateful that when you are part of the MBA group, you are automatically part of a new group of friends.

A few weeks ago, Jessica organized a little evening outing to Cocoa Cinnamon in downtown Durham. If Jessica recommends a place to eat, you know it’s going to be good.

I liked it as soon as I pulled into the parking lot – it’s kind of an old-school building, strung with lights, and it was just the kind of place you want to be on a cold night (and apparently we weren’t the only ones. Despite it being a weeknight, the place was packed).

They have basically every amazing beverage you can think of, from gourmet hot chocolate (which is what most of us got, I think) to coffee to italian sodas to steamers.

Also, when they offer you whole, 2% or skim milk, who picks skim? (I shamed Jessica into ordering at least 2%. I was tempted to get half and half myself because. . . why not?).

And, because who wants to drink something sweet without an accompanying baked good? I went for the chocolate chip toffee cookie.

And then we sat around on a couple of tiny hard benches and chairs and talked and laughed until they shut off the lights and we were the last people to leave. Just the way it should be.

They also surprised me with a gift certificate to go get a manicure and pedicure since they (correctly) assumed I didn’t need a whole lot of new pink gear for this baby.
Definitely the best kind of night.

  1. Gorgeous photos! I'm from Australia, and have never understood – what's the difference between 2% and skim?

    1. Hey Hannah! I'm from Australia too and also find US milk a bit confusing 🙂 I think 3% is full fat milk, 2% is like the "smart milk" from Pauls or "New Milk" from Dairy Farmers, and 1% is skim milk like "Trim". Half and half we don't have here at all I don't think – it's half cream and half milk I believe.
