A Black and White World Map (and an office tour)

UPDATE: I’ve had so many people email me asking about the file for this print. If you’d like to buy a copy, you can send me $8 via PayPal (janssen.everyday@gmail.com) and I’ll send the file right over!

A while ago, I saw this globe on Pinterest and, because I love maps, I wanted to do it myself.

But. . . I didn’t really need a globe.

What I DID need was something to go on the giant empty wall in my office.

Plus, my cheapskate self has been DYING to try a engineering print for ages, after I found out you could print a 24×36 inch print for $3.

(I tossed around the idea of doing an ENORMOUS one for the high cost of $7, but then when I went Michael’s and asked about a custom frame and they quoted me $400, so. . . . I bagged that idea).

I went to the source of all font wisdom (that would be Kayla) and then wept a little when she told me she was fairly certain the font wasn’t actually a font, but hand lettering.

That got her off the hook for about two weeks, until I came back and said, “How about you find me some similar fonts?”

And because she’s a good friend, she did.

After working through about ten variations of the text on this map file from Vector Templates (all of which I made Kayla look at and tell me what she thought), I settled on one I was happy with, uploaded it to the Staples website, and an hour later had an email telling me it was printed and ready to pick up.

I paid my $3 (plus another $3 for a bag of jelly beans because Ani was STARVING in the backseat and making her displeasure loudly known), and was on my merry way.

I picked up a gold Sharpie paint marker at Michael’s and traced over the letters, which I found surprisingly enjoyable.

I was a little worried that the paint marker (they were out of the regular metallic gold Sharpies) would bleed through or be a gold I didn’t like (too green, too orange), but it was perfect. I want to do a thousand projects using it now.

I stuck it in the frame, and (after making Bart hang it), was delighted by how awesome it looked. I’ll be sad to leave it for the summer.

And, because I’ve never shared any photos of my office/guest room, I snapped a few of the room.

This room is pretty enormous (it’s the same size as our master bedroom), and it easily fits a big bookshelf, a queen size bed, and my desk. Plus, having a giant bed right behind my desk makes a great place to lay out all sorts of paperwork.

I love having my office upstairs so I’m near the girls while they nap/do quiet time, and there is room in here for them to play (I keep a little basket of toys next to my desk to keep them occupied).

Also, there is this teeny room off the office, which Bart uses as his office, so we can both sit in our offices and still talk back and forth.

It’s definitely a big step up from my living room corner desk in Texas.

So I really like your keyboard stickers. Just got a new laptop and I think it would be cute to spiff it up a little.. but I hate when whole keyboards are covered with stickers. Something simple like you have would be cute.
Where can I get something like that?
    Thanks!

  7. Is there a other way to pay for the file? I do not have a pay pla account and I don't really want to open one.
