What We Gave Ella for Her 14th Birthday
Earlier this week, Ella turned 14.
She is the most delightful teenager – great with kids (every child 4 and under in our neighborhood is her best friend!), hard-working, and enthusiastic.
I remember my mom saying about me that I was a great cheerleader for whatever my parents wanted to do – trips, family activities, etc – and that my enthusiasm brought all my siblings along too.
Now as a parent, I recognize HOW MUCH that oldest child energy matters to a family and I’m endlessly grateful that Ella is always up for an adventure, a project, or something new and how much excitement she transfers to her younger sisters.
Here is what we gave Ella for her 14th birthday!
Birthday gifts for 14 year olds
TENNIS SKIRT
Ella is VERY into pickleball and she’d asked for a tennis skirt for her birthday. This one had great reviews and lots of color options, plus built-in shorts underneath.
FACE PAINTING BRUSHES
No surprise, she wanted some face painting supplies for her face painting business. We got her this set of brushes she’d requested along with this inexpensive brush washer.
KINDLE CASE
Ella has a Kids Kindle but we’ve never replaced the case it came with, which is not particularly fun and pretty kid-centric. I thought she’d love this one instead (plus it comes with a shell pop socket!). We also got her a remote Kindle page turner which she LOVES.
ERASABLE MARKERS
Ani has a set of these and Ella LOVES them and put her own set on her birthday wishlist. Tally was delighted to grant that wish!
ACRYLIC PAINT PENS
You may have noticed by now, but Ella LOVES art and art supplies (they made up fully 90% of her birthday wishlist). This was another thing she asked for and Star picked this set for her after spending ages poring over prices and reviews on Amazon!
SKETCH BOOK SET
Surprise! Another art supply request. These small, high quality sketchbooks were Ani’s pick for Ella’s 14th birthday gift and I think she’ll be thrilled!
LAMINATOR
This was my parents’ gift to Ella (it was another thing on her birthday wishlist) and I think Ella will LOVE this. I’ve actually never owned a laminator so I’m pretty excited myself!
COLORED PENCILS
This was my parents’ other gift to Ella – if you know anything about colored pencils, you know that Prismacolor are both the top of the top AND quite expensive, so she’ll be thrilled to have this set.
Any other ideas for gifts for 14 year olds? I’m always up for more suggestions since I feel like Christmas will be here before I know it!
The laminator reminded me of one of my favorite moments from one of my favorite tv series, the British show Taskmaster! It’s so so good. Hope Ella enjoys hers just as much as Kerry & Greg!!!

Does she have Posca pens? My 14 yr old is an art nut and she loves hers.
