10 Book Deals for a Summer Weekend
This week has been BUSY – between a broken arm for Ani, Ella’s birthday, boating, and a day trip to California, it feels like I’ve hardly taken a breath since Monday morning!
Here’s hoping there’s a little more relaxation this weekend and some good time to read on the deck!
Here are some of the books that are on sale this weekend!
Secrets of a Charmed Life by Susan Meissner – ebook – $1.99
I loved her book As Bright As Heaven that I read a few years ago, and this is the perfect excuse to read another one of her books (plus it has been on my TBR list for years!). It’s about two sisters who are separated during WWII.
The Eyes and the Impossible by Dave Eggers – audiobook – $5.99
This Newbery Medal winner is like nothing I have ever read before. Johannes is a free dog who lives in a preserve with a bunch of other animals. He makes his daily rounds keeping an eye on who is coming and going. Then a bunch of strange new animals appear…this one is full of art, rescuing, disguises, and escape plans.
The Terrible Two by Mac Barnett & Jory John – audiobook – $2.99
Ella and I listened to it together several years ago (all of my kids went on and listened to the rest of them one million times) and it’s hilarious about two boys trying to out-prank each other. Now, all of my girls can recite pretty much the entire book from memory because they’ve listened to it so many times.
The Emotional Lives of Teenagers: Raising Connected, Capable, and Compassionate Adolescents by Lisa Damour, Ph.D. – audiobook – $5.99
I started reading this over the summer and then got distracted and never picked it up again. Then I BLEW through it at the beginning of summer – I can’t get enough! I’m reading huge chunks of it aloud to my husband and as we look ahead at the next decade of having teenagers at home, it’s really a useful and readable book!
Biased: Uncovering the Hidden Prejudice That Shapes What We See, Think, and Do by Jennifer L. Eberhardt, PhD – audiobook – $5.99
I’m so glad to see the audiobook version on sale! It reminds me a little of Quiet with a great mix of storytelling and research.
Find Your People: Building Deep Community in a Lonely World by Jennie Allen – audiobook – $5.99
This would be the perfect book for someone looking to find community – it’s full of practical advice on how to make connections in today’s distracted world.
Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World by Cal Newport – audiobook – $5.99
I love Cal Newport and this book, his newest one, is probably his biggest hit (for good reason!). I still think Deep Work is his best, but this one is worth reading too!
Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto – audiobook – $5.99
I listened to Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers last year and I’ve heard that this book by the same author is just as delightfully funny and wacky, about a girl who accidentally kills her blind date and then, when her mother finds out, brings in all the aunties to help dispose of the body. I’m definitely planning on listening to it!
Unlikely Animals by Annie Hartnett – audiobook – $5.99
After my friend Kim of Talk Wordy to Me said it was one of her favorite books of the year and that the narration is by Kirby Heyborne who I love, I put it on my list of books to read this summer and I just started it this week!
Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea – audiobook – $5.99
This book is terrific! It is told from the point of view of seven different fifth graders, as they begin a new school year with Mr. Terupt (a new teacher). Each of them come with their own baggage and respond to Mr. Terupt differently and he, in turn, deals with each of them differently. And then a big event at school changes everything for these students and their teacher. (Duhn, Duhn, Duhn. . . ).
