Mid July Book Deals

We’ve been at Bart’s family reunion for the last couple of days (all the events are taking place nearby, so we’ve been coming home to sleep and still go to swim team practice in the morning).

It’s been low-key and fun, with plenty of time for reading and games and chatting (plus even a few naps!).

Here are some of my favorite book deals going on this weekend:

My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry by Fredrik Backman – ebook – $1.99
He’s the highly popular author from the book, A Man Called Ove, but this one is about a little girl who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime…she is heading out to face the people that her grandmother has wronged.

The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez – ebook – $1.99
Abby Jimenez does a great job with the “romance with substance” books, plus she gets an A for witty banter. This is the first book in the Friend Zone series (the second book in the series, The Happy Ever After Playlist, is one of my favorites by her). Kristen is harboring a big secret – she is going to undergo a surgery that could prevent her from having children in the future. But when she meets the perfect man at her best friends wedding, and his dream one day is to have a big family, Kristen let love in? Or will she be able to keep him at arms length?

The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave – ebook – $2.99
Hannah Hall married Owen Michaels a year ago. Now he’s disappeared, leaving only a note with two words, “Protect her.”  The “her” in the note is Owen’s teenager daughter Bailey who does not care for her stepmother at all. But they’ll have to work together as the FBI gets involved and it quickly becomes clear that Owen isn’t who his wife or his daughter thought he was. But Hannah isn’t one to walk away from the mystery – she’s going to get to the bottom of it, no matter how many twists and turns she finds ahead of her.

the read aloud family

The Read-Aloud Family: Making Meaningful and Lasting Connections with Your Kids by Sarah Mackenzie – ebook – $2.99
I mean, you already know I love this book (so much so that I picked it for the 2019 Everyday Reading Book Club!). But if you’re looking to make reading with your children a bigger part of your routine this year, there aren’t many more inspirational books than this one. It’s truly a gold mine of ideas. Trouble with Tattle-Tails: Fabled Stables Book #2 – audiobook – $0.99
My girls have loved the books in this series about Auggie who is in charge of the one-of-a-kind Fabled Stables. This is book #2 in the series, but like Mercy Watson books, you can read these in any order if you’d like.

The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau – ebook – $1.99
I have such vivid memories of reading this book in grad school (not for school. . . .just when I needed a little break from my data heavy courses).

Steelheart

Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson – ebook – $1.99
My husband and now my two oldest daughters are HUGE Brandon Sanderson fans. This is the first book in this trilogy. 18-year-old David joins the Reckoners, a group trying to get rid of super power wielding humans known as Epics. After witnessing his father’s death at the hands of an Epic, he is ready to end their tyranny.

my kitchen table

A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table by Molly Wizenbergebook – $1.99
Molly’s food blog was one of the early ones I read and I love her cooking and her writing so much. This is her first book and it is phenomenal, I even gave it to my mom for Mother’s Day about ten years ago and she loved it. (Full review here) Her book Delancey: A Man, a Woman, a Restaurant, a Marriage, about opening a restaurant with her new husband is another great read.
