A Weekend of Book Deals for the Beginning of January

Happy Saturday!

After going back to school and work this week, I’m delighted for the weekend!

My plans this weekend include reading in bed, spending the afternoon with my parents (they leave for 2 years in France next week!) and going out to dinner with my in-laws at a new restaurant we’ve heard raves about.

Here are some of my favorite book deals going on this weekend – there are some GOOOOOD ones!

the blonde identity

The Blonde Identity by Ally Carter – audiobook – $7.99
This was one of my picks for the 2024 Everyday Reading Summer Reading Guide and I FLEW through it! It’s funny, romantic and just dang fun. I have to say, it’s a perfect summer listen. Since this is a Chirp audiobook, there is no membership or subscription required – just buy and listen!

Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella – ebook – $2.99
Sophie Kinsella always comes up with the most ridiculous scenarios and then makes them so funny. I can’t help but to laugh my face off when I read her books. This is one of my favorite books of hers. Emma spills all of her secrets to a stranger she meets on a plane. But when that stranger becomes her new CEO at work, she realizes that he knows every embarrassing thing about her. How much worse could things get?

Carrie Soto Is Back

Carrie Soto Is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid – ebook – $2.99
I’ve read every book Taylor Jenkins Read has written and I think this is her best one. Carrie Soto is the best tennis star tennis has ever seen. She’s been retired for six years and now someone young and up and coming is gunning for her title. Well, Carrie Soto is not about to let that happen, so she comes out of retirement, asks her dad to coach her again, and she is going to do everything in her power to try and keep that title (even though being a 35 year old tennis star is not the same as being a tennis star in your twenties). I blew through this book in a single sitting in one afternoon. I LOVED it so much!

American Royals by Katharine McGee – ebook – $2.99
I’ve loved this fluffy YA series imagining the USA if George Washington had been a king and now had a modern royal family. If you love royal drama, these are a fun and super quick read.

rose code book

The Rose Code by Kate Quinn – audiobook – $4.99
Embarrassingly I haven’t yet gotten around to any books by Kate Quinn. This one about three women recruited to be codebreakers during WWII sounds intriguing!

The Secret Life of Groceries

The Secret Life of Groceries: The Dark Miracle of the American Supermarket by Benjamin Lorr – audiobook – $2.99
I think most readers have some speciality interest and the manufacturing and sales of food is definitely one of mine (kicked off by reading Fast Food Nation when I was a teenager!). This one is FASCINATING and I’ve been telling anyone I can get to listen all about the interesting things I’m learning. Do you love Trader Joe’s? I now know SO MUCH about this beloved grocery store and what makes it so successful!

The Greatest Gift (Heartwood Hotel: Book #2) by Kallie George – audiobook – $4.99
I’m always on the lookout for chapter books with lots of illustrations for the 4-6 crowd. This one is about a little mouse who stumbles into a hotel and takes a job as a maid. (Full review here) (This one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)

meet me in the margins book

Meet Me in the Margins by Melissa Ferguson – audiobook – $3.99
This is such a cute fun romance! An editor at Savannah’s dream publishing company is asking for the manuscript of a romance novel she has been secretly writing behind the scenes, while working at a different publishing company. She hides her manuscript in a hidden room, but later discovers someone has found it and started jotting very critical edits in the margins. This mystery editor is not only helping make her manuscript better, but could she be falling for him too?

How to Plot a Payback by Melissa Ferguson – audiobook – $3.99
This is another one by Melissa Ferguson that I read last spring. She writes clean romance with lots of mishaps and funny dialogue – I don’t think her writing is as hilarious as Sophie Kinsella but they’re definitely fun romance reads. My favorite is How to Plot a Payback (lots of screwball situations in this one that remind me of Sophie Kinsella).

  1. Have you read Ultra Processed People by Chris van Tullekan? If you’re interested in food I’d highly recommend it, very easy to read and fascinating!
