Really Great Book Deals for the End of October

After a delightful fall break in Boston and Vermont, it is so nice to be home and soaking up the late October weather.

We’ve turned on the fire for the first time this season and I keep coming out of my office to see my kids curled up with blankets and a good book!

Here are some great book deals going on (including some fun Halloween ones!) this weekend:

Countdown to Halloween!: With a Story a Day by Charles M. Schulz – ebook – $1.99
You all loved the Christmas advent books I shared earlier this month, so I had to show you this adorable Peanuts Halloween version too! It comes with 31 mini stories (one for each day in October leading up to Halloween). Even though the month’s flying by, it’d still be such a fun tradition to start now and continue for Halloween’s to come!

Make the Bread, Buy the Butter: What You Should and Shouldn’t Cook from Scratch by Jennifer Reese – ebook – $1.99
I couldn’t stop talking about this book for a solid year. It’s so interesting and so funny and made me think about how I was using my time in the kitchen and where I could save money or time or both. Highly recommend. (Full review here).

Hit Makers: How to Succeed in an Age of Distraction by Derek Thompson – ebook – $1.99
I always love a good non-fiction read and this was a REALLY good non-fiction read. I have told so many people about various anecdotes from this book, and as a blogger, small business owner, and consumer, this was fascinating on so many levels. I mean, why DID 50 Shades of Gray become so massively popular? Why did the iPhone succeed when most people surveyed before its release say they didn’t want it? This book talks about all of that and lots more.

rose code book

The Rose Code by Kate Quinn – audiobook – $6.99
Embarrassingly I haven’t yet gotten around to any books by Kate Quinn. This one about three women recruited to be codebreakers during WWII sounds intriguing!

The Terrible Two

The Terrible Two by Mac Barnett & Jory John – audiobook – $3.99
Ella and I listened to it together several years ago (all of my kids went on and listened to the rest of them one million times) and it’s hilarious about two boys trying to out-prank each other. Now, all of my girls can recite pretty much the entire book from memory because they’ve listened to it so many times. (Plus, this one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)

range

Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World by David Epstein – audiobook – $5.99
I feel like every person probably needs this book, whether they’re parenting children or trying to figure out what to do with their own lives (the audiobook version is excellent – my husband and I both listened to it!). Epstein takes you on a deep dive into the idea that generalists, not specialists are more apt to become successful and how too much specialization can stifle creativity and innovation. Really thought-provoking and applicable.

talking as fast as i can book

Talking as Fast as I Can by Lauren Graham – audiobook – $5.99
I loved Gilmore Girls back in the day and this was just so delightful. The audio version is also a really great listen since she reads it herself.

the berlin letters book

The Berlin Letters by Katherine Reay – audiobook – $5.99
Growing up in the US with her German grandparents who left Berlin in the 60s after the Berlin Wall went up, Luisa thought both her parents died in a car accident. Then in her work at the CIA, she comes across a piece of information that makes her question everything she knows about her family. Could her father still be alive and trapped in East Berlin? This gripping Cold War novel tells the story of a family divided by the Berlin Wall – told in a dual timeline from the perspective of Luisa, and her father Haris.

ghoulia book

Ghoulia by Barbara Cantini – audiobook – $1.99
Ghoulia is a zombie living with her aunt in a house on the edge of town and they never leave the house for fear of being run out of town. But on Halloween, with everyone dressing up, it seems like the perfect chance to sneak out and pretend to be a normal little girl dressed up as a zombie. Will it work? This one is really fun on audio – lots of sound effects! Two other books in the series are also on sale. (Plus, this one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)

Click, Clack, Boo!

Click Clack Boo! by Doreen Cronin, illustrated by Betsy Lewin – audiobook – $1.99
I’ve loved the Click Clack Moo books since I was first introduced to them in grad school and this Halloween version is just exactly what you’d expect from this duo. Charming and funny. (This one is a Libro.fm title, which means you can make it into a Yoto card!).

The Penderwicks in Spring by Jeanne Birdsall – audiobook – $5.99
We are SERIOUS Penderwick fans at our house (with four girls of our own, how could we not be?) and my girls listened to the whole series on repeat for a full year – they’re just so sweet, funny and comforting. This is the fourth book in the series and equally as great as all the others!
