2 Easy Tips for Searching Libby Audiobooks

How to search only audiobooks?

I love Libby audiobooks because I love audiobooks and I REALLY love free audiobooks! (Libraries forever!). In fact, I have a whole Libby 101 post here that you might find helpful if you’re just getting started with Libby through your library!

If you’re using the Libby app, here are two tips for making it easier to search Libby audiobooks.

First, here is how to search ONLY Libby audiobooks!

When you open the Libby app, tap the search button in the bottom left corner (it looks like a magnifying glass).

My library has the catalog filters readily available so I can just tap “audiobooks” but if yours doesn’t, tap the three lines under “Catalog Filters” and then choose “audiobooks” under “Format” and then the “Show # titles” button at the top of the screen.

Now when you search for a title, it will ONLY show you audiobook results, rather than mixing them in with ebooks and magazines.

Second, if you’re searching Libby audiobooks and you only want to see results for audiobooks that are currently available (rather than ones with a million mile hold line!), you’ll do the same thing but you’ll create TWO filters.

Tap the three lines under “Catalog Filters” and then choose “audiobooks” under “Format.” Then below that under “Availability” chose “Available Now” and then the “Show # titles” button at the top of the screen.

Now you can search within those parameters or scroll through to see what Libby audiobooks are currently ready to listen to with no wait!

I hope these tips for searching for Libby audiobooks makes it a little easier and faster for you to find just the right audiobook to listen to!

P.S. Remember that Libby catalogs are individual to your library – your library decides what audiobooks and ebooks they purchase licenses for so your Libby catalog may be incredible or it may be terrible or somewhere in between. If you want your library to have a better collection of Libby audiobooks and ebooks, talk to your librarian!

  1. Hi Janssen,
Love these tips as usual!! I’m not on Instagram so I can’t message you or participate in polls, so I wanted to say here: one post I’d love to see you make sometime is a list of books where the main characters are parents! As a new parent I have loved some of the books I’ve read (like Annabel Monaghan’s) that explore parents as being people both outside of having kids as well as how their love/responsibilities for their kids shapes what they do.
It seems like it’s maybe less common for authors to have parents (especially of young children) be the focal point – since parents are often less free to do what they want to do whenever they want to do it, thus making it harder to advance a plot – but I’ve loved it when I’ve seen it done right.
Anyway, just an idea. 🙂 Thank you!
