Holiday Weekend Book Deals in December
I can hardly believe Christmas is just a few days away! My kids are out of school for the holidays and we’ve got all sorts of fun plans (including lots of hanging out at home!) for the next couple of weeks.
I can’t wait!
And if you’re looking for some good reading material, there are some excellent books on sale.
The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year by Ally Carter
I cannot stop talking about this holiday romance/mystery! And the audiobook version? Too fun! It has two narrators, witty banter and it is pure delight from the first to the last page. I did a 30 second book review of it here – but just take my word for it…it is FANTASTIC!
What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty
Alice comes to on the floor of the gym, with a bunch of worried friends around her. They aren’t the only ones that are worried – Alice is expecting her first baby and she’s concerned that the fall might have hurt the baby (she also can’t figure out why she’s at the gym; she hates the gym). The surprise of being at the gym, though, takes a quick backseat to the shock Alice receives when she realizes that it’s not 1998 like she thought, but instead it’s 2008. She’s not pregnant – she has three children. And the happy, new-ish marriage to Nick that she remembers is now on the verge of divorce. It’s a lot to take in. (Full review here)
Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson
This is the April book for the 2025 Everyday Reading Book Club, and now is the perfect time to snag it – it’s a great deal! This one has been compared to The Princess Bride (so of course I was sold!). A fun adventure about pirates, a sorceress and plenty of magic.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson
I mean, what would a Christmas chapter book list be without this book? I LOVED reading this one with my girls – they got a huge kick out of the Herdman siblings, dubbed “the worst kids in the history of the world” who show up at church because of the free snacks and somehow take over the whole Christmas pageant. This one is a nice short read, so if you’re looking for something that you can get through in a couple of days or a week, this is a good pick. This holiday season they just released the movie and I am taking my whole family to see it on Christmas Eve!
Wormwood Abbey by Christina Baehr
I think Ella would absolutely love this YA series. It is historical fantasy with a little hint of romance, a bit of danger, a crumbling manor house, and a family secret that needs to be unearthed. Oh…and there are DRAGONS!
Henry and Mudge and the Snowman Plan by Cynthia Rylant
This is one of the classics in the easy reader chapter book realm. There are SO MANY of them, and the adventures of this young boy and his massive somewhat-ill-behaved dog never get old. In this installment Henry and Mudge get to work trying to win a snowman contest!
Kid Athletes: True Tales of Childhood from Sports Legends by David Stabler
Ella picked up a copy of Kid Presidents awhile back and really enjoyed it. I was delighted to see Kid Athletes is available for under $1! Kid Scientists, Kid Activists, Kid Presidents, Kid Authors, and Kid Artists are all also on sale for $0.99.
The Secret Keepers by Trenton Lee Stewart
We loved his novel The Mysterious Benedict Society and I bet my girls would love this one as well! An antique watch with secret powers is about to change Reuben’s life. This one is filled with dangerous adventure, a sly villian, and one big mystery.
Die With Zero: Getting All You Can from Your Money and Your Life by Bill Perkins
This is a money book like no other. It’s been such a fascinating and useful way to think about how I spend my life and what I want out of the money I make. It feels like one of those books that almost everyone would get something out of!
