5 Books I’m Currently Reading

One of my favorite things in the world is seeing what other people are reading.

I mean, it’s great to see booklists or hot titles, but I’m so curious about what people actually choose to pick up and spend their time reading or listening to.

If you’re similarly curious, here are five books (and audiobooks) I’m currently in the middle of!

I’ve started reading with my two little girls individually while the other one does Savvy Reading, and it’s been so fun to blaze through lots of shorter chapter books (usually around 100 pages long) with each of them. Generally, they both want to read the same book, so I end up reading the whole thing aloud twice!

I gave this graphic novel to Ella for Christmas and then when I mentioned it so many people absolutely RAVED about it that I felt compelled to pick it up. And it is TERRIFIC. It follows a little boy living in a refugee camp in Kenya with his younger brother after they’ve fled Somalia (it’s a true story, told by the author). Ella loved it too and I can’t read it fast enough!

This is the April book for the Everyday Reading Book Club and it’s one of the ones from the list that I haven’t read yet, so I’m getting a bit of a head start on it! I’ve heard from several of you already that you’ve read and LOVED this book, so I can’t wait! And after having just finished The Four Winds, I’m definitely in a historical fiction mood.

You may know that one of my all-time favorite books is The Wednesday Wars (and the companion book, Okay for Now, is just as good if not even better!). So when a new book about these same characters came out, I KNEW I had to read it.

This is my current evening read-aloud to the girls. I’ll admit that it’s a BIT too wacky for my taste, but my girls were OBSESSED with the first book and when it ended on a cliffhanger, they begged for me to read the second one aloud.

And if you’d like a printable copy of this list that you can take to your library or screenshot on your phone for easy access, just pop in your email address below and it’ll come right to your inbox!

What are you reading right now? I’d love to hear!

  1. I am currently reading Just Like That and I almost put it down after the SHOCKER on page 1.5. But I’m glad I didn’t–it’s been an amazing book with so many wonderful connections.

  2. I’m currently reading The Girls Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill, Saving Ceecee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman, Graceling by Kirsten Cashore and The Emotion Code by Bradley Nelson.

  3. After reading Funny in Farsi, I just had to read the second book by the same author, Laughing Without an Accent. I just finished that a few days ago. I’m currently reading The Fairy Tale Girl by Susan Branch (an illustrated autobiography). It’s fascinating, but also a good example that maybe you don’t want to know everything about someone. (LOL)

  4. I just finished the Nature of Fragile Things and really enjoyed it. I couldn’t remember why I had placed a hold on it at my library. I got a notification that it was available and considered not reading it because the cover was grey and I didn’t want another sad read after The Four Winds. I’m so glad I started —I flew through it. I must have placed a hold on it because of your book club. Thank you!
