4 Books I’m Reading Right Now
At the beginning of the summer, I was slightly ahead of my reading goal for the year (the first time this has happened in literally years), but now I’m slipping behind again. I’ve spent too much time playing pickleball and not enough time reading!
Still, I’ve been enjoying some good books this summer! Here are four I’m reading right now:

Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy
My friend Jessica, who is a huge bookworm, sent me a text a few weeks ago and said “You must listen to this immediately.” I pretty much do whatever Jessica tells me to do so I used my monthly listen from Amazon Music Unlimited to grab it and I’m very into it so far!

Hold Me Tight by Dr. Sue Johnson
I’ve mentioned before that we did quite a bit of therapy last year and it was truly life-changing (after one session, Bart said to me, “I think pretty much everyone could benefit a lot from therapy”). This book is reminding me of a lot of the things we learned there and has helped me personally work through some of my own issues. I usually read 20 pages or so at a time – it’s not really a plow-through-in-one-sitting kind of book for me.

The Poppy Fields by Nikki Erlick
I asked on Instagram if I should read this one or Good Dirt and the overwhelming vote was for Good Dirt (which I just finished and enjoyed), but this one got a lot of positive reviews too so I’m just jumping into this one too.

The Disengaged Teen: Helping Kids Learn Better, Feel Better, and Live Better by Jenny Anderson and Rebecca Winthrop
I’ve seen this book popping up all over the place and naturally I had to grab a copy from the library (the reviews are insane!). This is another book that I’m not blowing through but working through slowly and steadily.

Best Nerds Forever by James Patterson
Early on in the summer, Janssen posted this reel about two summer reading modes. One where you read way more than normal and the other where you read hardly at all. I’m definitely in the latter camp. However, my kids and I are still reading and listening together and this is what we are currently listening to. The kids were hooked when the main character dies within the first couple of chapters because like they said “This NEVER happens in kids books!”

The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah
This one has been on my TBR for years – the 15+ hour audiobook felt a little intimidating. But I’m so glad I finally dove in because I am hooked, especially with Julia Whelan narrating. It’s bringing back all my memories of reading Out of the Dust when it came out and being totally fascinated by the Dust Bowl. My husband is reading The Worst Hard Time right now too, so we’ve had no shortage of Dust Bowl conversations!

The Way of Play by Tina Payne Bryson and Georgie Wisen-Vincent I’ve had this title on hold for a long time and my hold finally came up. I can’t even remember who recommended this book, but I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve always known how important play is for kids, but at times I’ve struggled to play with my kids. This book has given me great tools for ways to engage with them. I’m home with them most days and it’s actually crazy how I can get to the end of the day and feel like we never really connected. One of my goals this summer has been to connect daily with each of my kids. Even just a short time every day has made a big difference!

Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty
This one wasn’t on my TBR until Janssen shared this 30-second book review—and then I picked it up and couldn’t put it down. The premise is just too good to resist: on a short domestic flight, a woman predicts the age and cause of death for the other passengers. A few months later, they start dying exactly as she said. I was completely fascinated by how each character grappled with that knowledge and what it did to their lives. And no one propels you through 500+ pages quite like Liane Moriarty!
