All About Completing the Puzzle

As I’ve gotten more into jigsaw puzzles over the past several years, questions about a puzzle subscription have come up frequently!

Finally, this summer I signed up for a Completing the Puzzle subscription and I’m hooked!

It’s such a fun delight to have puzzles show up at my door and then not have to worry about storing them after I’m done with them.

Lots of people wondered if it put pressure on my puzzling, but it actually feels the opposite! For whatever reason, when that puzzle shows up, it gives me total freedom to ignore every other puzzle and just enjoy the latest one!

I feel literally giddy every time a new puzzle arrives from Completing the Puzzle.

After I’d used Completing the Puzzle for a few months, I opened a question box to see what people wanted to know about this puzzle subscription!

P.S. My affiliate code for Completing the Puzzle is EVERYDAYREADING.

ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED ABOUT COMPLETING THE PUZZLE

Can you pause the subscription if you’re too busy for puzzles? Does it have to be on a set schedule or just whatever works for you?
The great thing about this puzzle subscription is that it does allow you to pause your subscription at any time. Whether you are too busy or out of town, pausing is always an option. To pause your subscription, just reach out to the customer support team (support@completingthepuzzle.com), let them know you would like to pause from date-date and they’ll get it set up for you!

How often do you get a new puzzle/how long can you keep a puzzle? Is it only one puzzle a month?
They offer a few different plans.

  • The Starter Plan which is exactly what it implies, unlimited! Subscribers are typically completing about 1-3 puzzles a month on this plan.
  • The Double Puzzle plan, which is essentially the same deal, you just get two puzzles at a time and customers are completing around 1-6 puzzles a month. (This is their most popular plan!).
  • The Keeper Plan. This plan allows you to get 3 puzzles in the first shipment. You complete 2 and mail those back and then you have that 3rd puzzle to work on while you’re waiting for your next 2 to arrive, so you never go without having a puzzle! On this plan customers are averaging about 3-9 puzzles a month.

Any of these plans allow you to keep the puzzle as long as you need; there is no time limit!

How easy is it to return the puzzles back to the company?
Super easy! Your bag that the puzzle comes in also includes a pre-paid return label. Once you’re done, just pop the label in the label holder in the front of the reusable mailer and stick it in the mailbox for pickup or hand it to your mail delivery person! Or if it’s easier for you, you can drop it off at the post office.

Can you choose the number of pieces for the puzzles you receive?
They offer lots of different piece counts – 300, 500, 700, 1,000 & 1,500+. When signing up, you select your puzzle preferences including piece count, themes you like and don’t like and you can even select “large pieces only” if you don’t not want any small piece puzzles.

How long does it take from when you send your puzzle in until you get a new one?Typically around 5-7 days.

Because you are paying, does it put pressure on you and take the fun of puzzling?
For me, it’s been the opposite! It’s made my puzzling feel MORE fun. There is no time limit to complete the puzzle (and usually it’s going to be quite a bit less expensive than buying each puzzle individually anyway!).

Can you pick the skill level?
Yes, when signing up you get to choose your level. And if at any time you want to adjust this, you can easily go into your account and change your level.

What is the quality of the puzzles like?
Great! They have really great brands in their collection like Galison, Art & Fable, Dowdle and a ton a of others – I’ve loved having some of my favorite puzzle brands show up in the mail and also trying new-to-me brands!

Do they clean the puzzles?
I wondered the same thing and was pleased to find out they have a cleaning process for every returned puzzle! They have a specialized machine that uses rotation for complete coverage, air drying to remove moisture, powerful UVC light for disinfection, and HEPA filtration to capture particles. Additionally, each puzzle undergoes a meticulous hand inspection to ensure it’s fresh and ready for the next puzzler.

Can you choose which one to send or do they surprise you?
The best way to get puzzles you love is to create a wishlist. The Completing the Puzzle team chooses from that wishlist first when selecting your next puzzle. Creating a wishlist is super simple. All you have to do is go through the catalog and click the heart on any puzzles you love. The more you have on your wishlist, the better your chances of getting one you’ll love. You can select a wide variety of puzzle sizes and preferences for your wishlist.

If none of your puzzles on your wishlist are available when you need a new one, they will choose another one based on the preferences and level/difficulty (piece count) you set in your account, so make sure you have that properly selected in your account.

Is it worth the cost? Is it less expensive than just getting a new puzzle on Amazon and keep?
Only you can decide if it’s worth the cost. You can see the cost breakdown of the three plans discussed above.

If you are buying multiple puzzles a month you are most definitely saving money. Plus, you don’t have to find space in your home to store puzzles you purchased that you’ll never do again.

Curious if you’ll think it’s worth it. I have a subscription and I wish I was able to get new ones back faster to make it more worthwhile.
The Keeper Plan does offer this, as you send two back and keep one. But…one little secret is they do also offer an “autoship plan.” They don’t advertise this on their website, but you can reach out to their customer support and ask to upgrade so that your puzzle autoships the moment your puzzle is scanned by USPS rather than waiting for them to receive the one you are returning. Genius!

If I was going on a trip soon and wanted a puzzle from that locale could I get it?
Oooooo…that’s a fun idea! It depends if they offer a destination puzzle of the place you’re traveling to. You can always search for it in their collection and add it to your wishlist if you find one!

How do they handle missing pieces?
They do check between uses and do their best to detect and remove incomplete puzzles from inventory, but sometimes even brand new puzzles come from the factory with missing pieces. They do ask that if there are missing pieces or you happen to lose a piece, you put a note in the bag when you send it back or email support@completingthepuzzle.com. That way they can remove the puzzle from their collection. Those pieces can be so sneaky and hide in the strangest places! If you do ever come across a piece that went missing, they would love them back to be reunited with the puzzle!
