For Kids
The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise by Dan Gemeinhart – $4.99
9 hours 12 minutes
Coyote and her dad have lived together on the road in an old school bus for the past five years, ever since her mom and two sisters died in a car crash. She hasn’t been back to her home state of Washington in all that time, but when she learns the park where she and her mom had buried a cherished memory box is about to be demolished, she devises a plan to get her dad to drive over 3,000 miles in four days to retrieve it.
Winterhouse by Ben Guterson – $4.99
9 hours 25 minutes
This trilogy is set in a magical hotel full of secrets and orphan Elizabeth is sent there by her evil aunt and uncle. In it’s massive library she discovers a magical book of puzzles. This book holds the answers to the mystery involving the hotel’s owner. Will Elizabeth be able to unlock the mystery, even when she realizes that she may be connected?
The Wonderful World of James Herriot by James Herriot – $6.99
12 hours 14 minutes
I grew up on James Herriot – my mom is a huge fan – and she introduced my girls to his sweet stories about being a farm vet. This collection is sweet and funny and just right for snuggling up with (bonus: watch the very excellent PBS Masterpiece series after you’re done).
A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin – $6.99
7 hours 17 minutes
A fantasy series originally published in 1968, it’s a timeless story about Ged the greatest sorcerer in Earthsea and his journey through trials to get to his current height.
For Adults
Tiny Habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything by BJ Fogg, PhD – $3.99
11 hours 22 minutes
After this post about books to read if you loved Atomic Habits, I got a slew of messages from readers asking how I could have left Tiny Habits off the list. I left it off because I hadn’t read it, but I immediately picked it up from the library and really enjoyed it!
Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid – $4.99
11 hours 5 minutes
I have read every book she’s written (this one is my favorite) so I didn’t want to skip this one and it didn’t disappoint! Four famous siblings throw a huge party every summer in Malibu. But this year? The mansion burns to the ground during the party. I listened to the audio version and it was so well done. I’m still thinking about it more than six months later – she is such a master at a large cast of characters. (Full review here)
Your Money or Your Life: 9 Steps to Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Achieving Financial Independence by Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez – $4.99
11 hours 21 minutes
I have zero desire to live at the level that some of the people in this book are willing to live at, but the general idea that you give up time and life to earn money has stuck with me for more than a decade and I think about this book ALL the time.
Biased: Uncovering the Hidden Prejudice That Shapes What We See, Think, and Do by Jennifer L. Eberhardt PhD – $4.99
10 hours 24 minutes
I’m so glad to see the audiobook version on sale! It reminds me a little of Quiet with a great mix of storytelling and research. This has been on my to-read list for YEARS! Crossing my fingers that 2024 is the year!
The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth – $4.99
7 hours 44 minutes
This one will keep you guessing all the way till the end! It’s told by two narrators- Pippa Gerard, whose husband has a talent for talking people down off a cliff- literally. He has stopped multiple people from jumping to their deaths at a sea cliff near their home. And the other narrator is Amanda, the one person that Pippa’s husband couldn’t talk down off the cliff. All the pieces start coming together until the real cause of her death is revealed.
A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher – $4.99
11 hours 8 minutes
I read this one in the fall and it was such a fun Halloween read for me (but could really be read any time of the year). It’s based on the fairytale The Goose Girl and it is filled with sinister magic, fantasy, and one dangerous witch! I also loved the romance between older characters!
Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella – $6.99
10 hours 43 minutes
Sophie Kinsella always comes up with the most ridiculous scenarios and then makes them so funny. I can’t help but to laugh my face off when I read her books. This is one of my favorite books of hers. Emma spills all of her secrets to a stranger she meets on a plane. But when that stranger becomes her new CEO at work, she realizes that he knows every embarrassing thing about her. How much worse could things get?
Endurance: A Year in Space, a Lifetime of Discovery by Scott Kelly – $6.99
13 hours 6 minutes
I have really been getting into reading more nonfiction – and recently my girls have taken a liking to nonfiction read alouds! I am planning to read the young readers edition of this book to my girls, and it sounds so FACINATING! After spending a year in space, Scott Kelly shares his journey of what it was like living aboard the ISS.
A Fall of Marigolds by Susan Meissner – $6.99
9 hours 48 minutes
I love Susan Meissner’s historical fiction novels and I’m anxious to read this one about a scarf handed down through generations that connects two women, a hundred years apart in New York City.
Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years by Julie Andrews – $6.99
13 hours 23 minutes
After introducing my girls to Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, AND The Princess Diaries movies, I am feeling all the Julie Andrews love right now!
Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty – $7.99
17 hours 31 minutes
I’ve been a Liane Moriarty fan since I first read What Alice Forgot back in 2011. Since then, I’ve read several of her other books, and of course Truly Madly Guilty in about two days! (Full review here)
