All of the Newbery Award Winners since 1922
If you are looking for a fantastic award-winning novel, I’ve compiled a list of every single Newbery Medal Winner since 1922. And if you’d like a printable copy of my Newbery winner book list that you can take to your library or screenshot on your phone for easy access, just pop in your email address below and it’ll come right to your inbox!
Years ago, I heard that my aunt had a goal to read all the Newbery winners (whether or not she has, I have no idea!).
I loved that idea and I have a quiet goal to someday read them all too!
The Newbery award is given every year to the the most distinguished contribution to American children’s literature in the preceding year.
Obviously “most distinguished” is a very subjective term and some years the Newbery winners are incredible and other years . . . well, not so much. (You can see some of my favorite Newbery winners here).
Here are all the Newbery winners and Newbery honor books from each year since the award was started in 1922.
Each year there is 1 book that gets the gold medal and Honor books – which have a silver sticker – are awarded by the committee as well. They can choose how many Honor books to award and it is usually 3-4 titles.

Janssen, how many have you read? I too have a “quiet goal” to read them all. So far I’m at 37, and I started but didn’t want to finish Flora & Ulysses. The oldest one I’ve read is Caddie Woodlawn. What is the oldest one you’ve read? My favorites are: Number the Stars, The Giver, Despereaux, Dicey’s Song, Hello Universe, The Girl Who Drank the Moon, and When You Reach Me.
