Favorite Book Deals to Finish Off May
Our first week of summer is over (I’m already dreading it going too fast!) and we went on a little camping getaway with friends down to one of Utah’s national parks.
Here are some of my favorite book deals to finish off May!

Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson
This was our audiobook pick for our Costa Rica trip and it was a huge hit! I picked the full cast version, which was a great call – there are so many different voices and original music and sound effects and it just made for a stunning listen that we were all very into from the first few minutes. Tress has lived a quiet life until her beloved friend (and . .. .maybe more than friend?) is taken away on a voyage by his father and disaster strikes. Now Tress is ready to leave everything she’s ever known behind to stow away on a ship and sail across the mysterious seas where even a single drop of water can spell death for everyone aboard.
Magic for Marigold by L. M. Montgomery
I have loved every book I have ever read by L.M. Montgomery (and don’t come at me for saying I think I like her Emily Moon series better than Anne of Green Gables!) This one about a little girl and her quirky family and imaginary friend sounds absolutely whimsical!
Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella
Sophie Kinsella always comes up with the most ridiculous scenarios and then makes them so funny. I can’t help but to laugh my face off when I read her books. This is one of my favorite books of hers. Emma spills all of her secrets to a stranger she meets on a plane. But when that stranger becomes her new CEO at work, she realizes that he knows every embarrassing thing about her. How much worse could things get?
The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of September 11, 2001 by Garrett M. Graff
There have been a lot of 9/11 books, but this one tells the story of how it unfolded with oral accounts from the first responders, live witnesses, survivors, and family members. It’s considered one of the best September 11th books for a reason.
One by One by Ruth Ware
I really got into Ruth Ware’s books in late 2023! Her books are all mystery/thrillers and this one is about a tech startup that hosts an executive retreat at a chalet in the Alps. Things are tense when they get there (some of the team wants to take a buyout while others want to keep going until they can cash out with a public IPO) and only get worse as the weather takes a dangerous turn and an avalanche traps them all in the chalet. And then when people start dying? Well. . . now things are really getting intense. This is the first of her books that really gave me the creeps but I loved it.
Divergent by Veronica Roth
This dystopian novel was at the top of all the charts when it came out a decade ago and it’s still a fun read for teens and adults!
Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B. Alston
I read this aloud to my children and we were all completely sucked in! Amari’s mourning the disappearance of her beloved older brother (the police say he’s almost certainly dead), but when she gets a pre-recorded message from him, she discovers that there is a supernatural world she’s known nothing about and that her brother was heavily involved before his disappearance. Joining this world isn’t going to be easy, but she’s willing to do whatever it takes to find out what happened to her brother. And she better mean it, because “whatever it takes” turns out to be a LOT. (This one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)
The Secret Life of Groceries: The Dark Miracle of the American Supermarket by Benjamin Lorr
I think most readers have some speciality interest and the manufacturing and sales of food is definitely one of mine (kicked off by reading Fast Food Nation when I was a teenager!). This one is FASCINATING and I’ve been telling anyone I can get to listen all about the interesting things I’m learning. Do you love Trader Joe’s? I now know SO MUCH about this beloved grocery store and what makes it so successful!
