4 Books I’m Currently Reading (+ My Team’s Picks!)
I did a LOT of reading in June but July is swallowing me whole!
Between family reunions and boating and swim meets, it’s felt like I’ve hardly had a chance to sit down with a book!
But here are four I’m reading right now!
The Love of My Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood
I saw someone recommend this book and the premise (a young woman dies in a freak accident and in the waiting room of the afterlife connects with a handsome guy. She gets herself a pass to return to earth and find this mysterious man in 10 days or she’ll be dead for good) appealed to me. I’ve been listening to this on my runs and it is giving me Sophie Kinsella vibes!
The Secret Life of Groceries: The Dark Miracle of the American Supermarket by Benjamin Lorr
I think most readers have some speciality interest and the manufacturing and sales of food is definitely one of mine (kicked off by reading Fast Food Nation when I was a teenager!). This one is FASCINATING and I’ve been telling anyone I can get to listen all about the interesting things I’m learning. Do you love Trader Joe’s? I now know SO MUCH about this beloved grocery store and what makes it so successful!
Swan Song by Elin Hilderbrand
I almost always enjoy an Elin Hilderbrand book – they’re so easy to dive into for the summer and I had this one on my Kindle at our family reunion last weekend. She does a sense of place as well as anyone I’ve read and I’m dying to visit Nantucket someday because of her novels!
All Thirteen: The Incredible Cave Rescue of the Thai Boys’ Soccer Team by Christina Soontornvat
This is a re-read for July’s Everyday Reading Book Club and it’s so fun to revisit this book several years after I originally read it. It’s especially fun to be listening to it this time after so many people have raved about the audio version (I’ve heard from dozens of families that enjoyed it as a road trip audiobook for kids, teens, and adults alike!).
And here is what my team is reading!
JENNIFER
The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt
I just started reading this book, but I’m already loving it. One of the author’s other books, The Coddling of the American Mind was one of my favorite books I read last year. I talked about it nonstop to my husband and my friends! I love a good social psychology book, throw in parenting and it checks all my boxes! This author presents things in such an interesting and intriguing way. He takes a deep dive into the effects of screens, phones, and social media on kids, starting in the early 2010’s.
ANALESE
The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett by Annie Lyons
I am only a few chapters into this book and it reminds me a lot of A Man Called Ove. Eudora is 85-years-old and has everything in order to end her life on her own terms. That is until her life is shaken up when she meets spunky, cheerful ten-year-old Rose. I haven’t been as drawn to pick this one up as I have others, but I am planning on finishing it.
Kelsey
One Perfect Couple by Ruth Ware
I am about halfway through this new thriller by Ruth Ware, and I am excited to finish it. Lyla is a post-doctoral virologist whose contract may not be renewed, and things with her boyfriend Nico don’t seem to be going anywhere. When Nico, an aspiring actor, convinces her that they should audition for a new couple reality show (Love Island meets Survivor), she decides to give it go. After being chosen for the show, they are whisked off to Ever After Island…but things are not going as planned, and things are starting to get deadly. I have really been enjoying this one on audio.
Thanks Janssen for these book suggestions! I just learned of your website and absolutely love it!!
I will read at least one of your suggestions. I would like to recommend a book I just read called Abduction and Uncharted Survival by M.V.Jones I read it in a day and the story has stuck with me and not many books I read stick with me lol Thanks for your suggestions!
