Books to Read If You Liked The Boxcar Children

I grew up reading the Boxcar Children (I read the whole series SO MANY times) and then it was the series that really got Ella into audiobooks when she was about 4.

All of my kids have gone through a serious Boxcar Children phase and we’ve listened to the series so many times over the years.

If you have a Boxcar Children lover, here are some other mystery series they might enjoy!

This was the perfect mystery book series for Ella. She’s gone on to read all of this series as well as the Calendar Mysteries and often revisits both when she’s out of new books.

I read and re-read these books as a child and loved trying to figure out the mysteries before flipping to the back to check out the answer. Also, I just really want an encyclopedic memory.

Wright Cousin AdventuresThe Treasure of the Lost Mine by Gregory O. Smith

This is a fun western adventure series with a modern twist (it definitely gives me Boxcar Children vibes!). I got the first one for Ani several years ago and now we own the whole series which my kids have listened to over and over again about a set of cousins that search for lost treasure, explore abandoned mines, and solve mysteries.

Unicorns are real, and Elliot and Uchenna find out there are plenty more dangerous things in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. Ella loved the City Spies books, so when I discovered this mystery series by the same author, I snagged all three of them for Ella who blew through them in a week. This series follows Florian Bates who is the only kid that the FBI Director has on speed dial (and a kid that a whole lot of criminals want taken care of). After a move to DC, Florian and his new friend Margaret uncover a mystery that involves a major crime ring, the FBI and the National Gallery. It’s up to them to solve the mystery AND get their homework done.
