Book Deals for the Weekend of Sept. 19th
It’s starting to feel like fall around here! I’m writing this while it rains outside and we’re burning through pumpkin candle like there is no tomorrow!
It’s a perfect weekend to stay in and read (I just started book six of this series!)
Here are some book deals you won’t want to miss!

The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center – ebook – $2.99
I love Katherine Center (her books have snagged Summer Reading Guide spots on multiple occasions) and I think this might be my new favorite of hers about a woman who gets hired to help rewrite a screenplay with her screenwriter idol. Will sparks fly? OF COURSE THEY WILL.

Nancy Drew: The Secret of the Old Clock by Carolyn Keene – audiobook – $3.99
Ella got hooked on the Nancy Drew series because there were some included on the Amazon FreeTime Unlimited books on her new Kindle and then she discovered we had a whole set of them on my bookshelf. I grew up with Nancy Drew (my mom bought a huge set of the original yellow hardcovers from a friend for $5 or $10! (Plus, this one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)

The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall – ebook – $1.99
We are SERIOUS Penderwick fans at our house (with four girls of our own, how could we not be?) and my girls listened to the whole series on repeat for a full year – they’re just so sweet, funny and comforting.

The Lord God Made Them All (All Creatures Great and Small Book 4) by James Herriot – ebook – $1.99
You cannot go wrong with a James Herriot book, a country vet in England who spends his days caring for farm animals and house pets after WWI. These books are sweet and funny and just right for snuggling up with (bonus: watch the very excellent PBS Masterpiece series after you’re done).

To the Hilt by Dick Francis – ebook – $1.99
I read his book The Banker and ended up reading it in one day, so I’d be eager to give this one a shot too (especially since it’s under $2)! When Michael Alexander finds himself the victim of theft, digging into the truth pulls him into a tangle of deceit that puts both him and his family in danger.

Untangled: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions of Adulthood by Lisa Damour Ph.D. – ebook – $1.99
Analese on my team recommended this one after reading it when her daughter turned 13. It’s chock full of real life examples, great ideas on how to connect with your daughters, and some fabulous insight on why they are the way they are and how to respond to them. Plus the focus is on how amazing teenagers really are, which I’m all about.

The Lazy Genius Way by Kendra Adachi – ebook – $1.99
This book is perfect as you think about what you want and how you can achieve it in the most effortless way. I love her focus on finding what works for YOU, whether it’s the kind of thing that works for anyone else or not, and her kind, gentle-humored style. Whether you’re new to Kendra or are already a fan of her podcast, this book is terrific.

The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin – audiobook – $4.99
This was another Everyday Reading Book Club pick and I’ve read it twice! AJ Fikry is a grumpy bookshop owner who is losing money, has his rarest book stolen, and then finds a baby left on his doorstep. This book is a reader’s DELIGHT. (Full review here)

Fair Play by Eve Rodsky – audiobook – $5.99
I read this one in 2020 and I still think about it. It’s all about how to divide up household and family responsibilities between two parents and it was fascinating and eye-opening. LOTS of people suggested it when I asked for book recommendations that went along with 168 Hours. (Fair warning that it has quite a bit of swearing). Since this is a Chirp audiobook, there is no membership or subscription required – just buy and listen!

The Blonde Identity by Ally Carter – audiobook – $4.99
This is one of my picks for the 2024 Everyday Reading Summer Reading Guide and I FLEW through it! It’s funny, romantic and just dang fun. I have to say, it’s a perfect summer listen. This is also a Chirp audiobook, so there is no membership or subscription required – just buy and listen!

Rich AF: The Winning Money Mindset That Will Change Your Life by Vivian Tu – audiobook – $5.99
This is a fantastic personal finance book! I’m always getting asked for book recommendations for people who want to understand their finances and investing better and this is my new go-to suggestion that makes money feel fun, interesting and accessible.

Die With Zero: Getting All You Can from Your Money and Your Life by Bill Perkins – audiobook – $5.99
I love a good money book, but this one is very different than any other money book I’ve ever read and Bart and I have been talking about it to everyone we know for the last several years. It’s been such a fascinating and useful way to think about how I spend my life and what I want out of the money I make. It feels like one of those books that almost everyone would get something out of – this is a top 10 non-fiction of all time for me.
