Book Deals for the First Weekend in December

Happy December!

I can hardly believe we’re here – I love this time of year and am so excited for all the fun things ahead.

Upstairs at the White House: My Life with the First Ladies by J. B. West andMary Lynn Kotz – ebook
These stories of life in the private quarters of the White House from the chief usher who worked from FDR’s administration through Nixon are FANTASTIC. We read this one for Everyday Reading Book Club in 2021 and it was HUGELY popular. (Full review here)

The Measure by Nikki Erlick – audiobook
I listened to this story where everyone wakes up to find a box on their doorstep with a string that equates to how long you have left to live. Naturally, the world goes nuts about it. This is one of those books you REALLY want to talk about with someone!

The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah – ebook
I already know that The Four Winds is divisive. I LOVED it and couldn’t stop listening – blowing through the 15 hour of audio in just days – but I know other people found it too depressing. I was sucked in to this story of the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression and a woman who will do whatever it takes to protect her children. After growing up in a family that consider her too weak (thanks to a childhood illness) and too homely to ever marry and then a husband who can’t find the happiness he seeks with his family, she knows that the only person she can really rely on is herself. If you love historical fiction and strong characters, this one is a winner. (Full review here)

Ada Twist and the Disappearing Dogs (Book #5) by Andrea Beaty – audiobook
You may know Andrea Beaty’s picture books but have you checked out her chapter book series featuring the same characters? They’re under two hours long and read by a FABULOUS narrator. (This one is also a Libro.fm title, which means you can make it into a Yoto card!).

Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne – audiobook – $4.99
More than two hours of the timeless classic Winnie the Pooh read by Joel Froomkin. It’s always a favorite around here. (This one is also a Libro.fm title, which means you can make it into a Yoto card!).

At Home in the World: Reflections on Belonging While Wandering the Globeby Tsh Oxenreider – audiobook
