Book Deals for the Final Weekend of September
After being out of town last weekend (my husband and I went to Chicago – you can see my whole post about our trip here!), it feels good to be home.
I’ve finished quite a few books this week and hoping to knock out a couple more that I’m in the middle of over the weekend!
Here are some book deals that caught my eye this weekend!
Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner
To be honest, I couldn’t finish this one because the details about her mom dying of cancer were too vivid for me after having watched my own brother lose his life to cancer when I was a teenager. But most people LOVE this book and if you’ve been wanting to read it, it’s a great deal.
Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman
I could not put this book down – it’s a totally different look at time management than I’ve EVER read before. If you’re tired of feeling rushed or like life is just a race toward more and more productivity, this book is for you! It’s a pretty dense book, but I enjoyed reading it a few pages at a time over a couple of months.
Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand
This book is non-fiction but it’s so amazing, it’s hard to believe someone didn’t make it up. Olympic runner Louis Zamperini’s plane is shot down in the Pacific during WWII and after surviving on a tiny inflatable raft for 47 days, he’s taken prisoner by the Japanese. And compared to being a POW, the raft time looks like vacation. Probably the best WWII book I’ve read. (Full review here)
Christmas with Anne: And Other Holiday Stories by L. M. Montgomery
If you’re an Anne lover (as I am!), this collection of holiday Christmas stories from the author of these beloved books is absolutely charming. It doesn’t really matter if you’ve read Anne of Green Gables or not – two of the chapters are from the Anne books, but they stand alone, like the other stories in this book. Plus, at $1.99, now is the perfect time to start stocking up on those holiday reads!
A Girl Called Samson by Amy Harmon
I have been so impressed and have truly loved the two Amy Harmon books I have read (What the Wind Knows and The Outlaw Noble Salt). This one is based on a real-life young woman who dressed as a man in order to fight in the American Revolution.
Emily of New Moon by L. M. Montgomery
This is the lesser known trilogy of Anne of Green Gables. (I secretly love it more than Anne of Green Gables and read it dozens of times growing up.) Plus, L.M. Montgomery said Emily was her favorite heroine too.
Curse of the Arctic Star (Nancy Drew Diaries) by Carolyn Keene
I grew up reading the original Nancy Drew books so it’s fun to see the same characters in this new version of the mystery stories. Ella LOVES this series and has read them over and over again.
The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise by Dan Gemeinhart
Coyote and her dad have lived together on the road in an old school bus for the past five years, ever since her mom and two sisters died in a car crash. She hasn’t been back to her home state of Washington in all that time, but when she learns the park where she and her mom had buried a cherished memory box is about to be demolished, she devises a plan to get her dad to drive over 3,000 miles in four days to retrieve it.
