The Hair Products I’ve Been Using This Year
At the beginning of the year, I decided that 2024 was the year for me to finally deal with my hair.
I’ve been low-level unhappy about it for literally decades and in January it suddenly occurred to me that this was probably an issue I could fix (yes, I’m a genius).
I have great pregnancy hair, but the rest of the time, it’s fine, I don’t have tons of it, and it’s just so dang flat.
Three months in, and I’m having more good hair days than bad and it’s really delightful to see progress.
Here are the hair products I’ve been using!
(Note that if I were doing serious scientific studies about hair products, I’d use one at a time for long periods of time and see what made the biggest difference, but frankly, since this was just for my own benefit, not for the sake of science, I decided to just jump in and see what happened with many changes at once).
The Hair Products I’ve Been Using This Year
PUREOLOGY SHAMPOO
I switched to this shampoo probably 8 years ago and absolutely loved it. Then I ran out of as we moved and for the next several years, I hopped around between brands, all of which were good, but none of which I loved so much that I felt loyal for life. In January, I finally ordered a new bottle of Pureology and it’s felt so good to be back. It also lets me go more than a week between washes, which I’d been struggling to do for the last few years.
OLAPLEX NO. 5 BOND CONDITIONER
My sister Merrick had recommended this conditioner so I ordered it when I ordered my new Pureology shampoo. I haven’t noticed any wild difference, but it seems to do the job fine.
ARTNATURALS ROSEMARY CASTOR HAIR OIL
I put this on my hair the night before I wash it and let it sit overnight. I love that it’s not super expensive and that it has two of the major ingredients that promote hair growth (many hair oils have one or the other). It’s a little thicker and stickier than other hair oils I’ve used in the past, rather than super runny. I usually do one dropper full on my scalp and massage that it and then another one that I run through the bottom half of my hair. My code is anjanssen15 on Amazon.
BONDI BOOST HEAT PROTECTANT SPRAY
I’ve been using this for a couple of years and have been really happy with it. I put this on pretty much every day if I’m using any hot tools.
HAIR DRYER BRUSH
I try to let my hair air dry as much as possible on wash day, but if I need to speed things up, I give it a little help with this blow dryer brush (plus it’s helpful for adding a little extra volume at the roots). I’ve had this for several years and it’s been great.
VOLOOM ROOTIE VOLUMIZING HAIR IRON
When I talked about how flat my hair is on Instagram, someone sent me a reel from Cake by Courtney about this volumizing hair iron and after a month or so of waffling about it, I finally ordered it and I was hooked from day one. It’s super easy to use and in a couple of minutes every few days, my hair no longer looks so so flat. I’m sold! I use it about every other day.
L’ANGE 1 INCH CURLING IRON
I bought this probably 6 or 7 years ago and I’ve been very happy with it. I use it every time I curl my hair (it’s the only curling iron I use!) – usually I wear my hair straight for a few days after I wash my hair and then curl it for 4-5 days before I wash it again.
NAVY PEBBLY BEACH DRY TEXTURE SPRAY
This stuff is ridiculously expensive but dang if it doesn’t do the job. It does what I was always trying to get dry shampoo to do for me but a thousand times better. I’m hooked on this for adding lift and texture to my hair – it really helps me go longer between washes too because my hair isn’t lying so flat against my scalp.
GIMME HAIR BRUSH
This is by far my favorite hair brush (and I’ve tried many!). I’ve been using this one for probably four years and I just love it.
NUTRAFOL HAIR GROWTH SUPPLEMENTS
I did a sponsored campaign with them at the beginning of the year, just as I started taking these. It says 3-6 months before you see results and I’m just barely getting to three months, so it’s hard to tell if it’s making a big difference yet.
MARY RUTH’S HAIR GROWTH LIQUID VITAMINS
I started taking their regular liquid multivitamin at the beginning of the year and have been really happy with it and then just switched to their Hair Growth multivitamin a few weeks ago. I figure if I’m taking a multivitamin anyway, I might as well use one that’s specifically for hair growth. Plus, I like the flavor of this one better than the regular one. My affiliate code for their site or Amazon is JANSSENB20.
And. . .there you have it! If you have any question about any of these hair products, I’m happy to answer!
