A Weekend of Book Deals to Finish Off March

We headed down to St. George this weekend to soak in some warm weather and cheer on some friends running the half marathon.

And OF COURSE I packed some books (did you see my reel about what I like to do with my books when I travel?). I’m deep into reading in prep for this summer’s reading guide and I can’t wait!

Here are some book deals you won’t want to miss:

Christmas with the Queen by Hazel Gaynor & Heather Web
A Christmas book in March? You must think I am crazy! But while it is on sale, this is the perfect time to snag the December book for the 2025 Everyday Reading Book Club. I loved their book Last Christmas in Paris and I’m so thrilled about this Christmas historical fiction title. This story is set in 1952 where young Queen Elizabeth II finds herself as the new monarch and is preparing for her radio broadcast on Christmas Day as postwar Britain changes around her.

What the Dog Saw by Malcolm Gladwell
This collection of essays is one of his best, I think (which is saying something since I generally do not care for), and the format means it is easy to read one or two at a time.  (Full review here).

Wayside School Is Falling Down by Louis Sachar
Both of my older girls have listened to these stories many many times on audio about Wayside School where everything is a little (okay, lot) weird. The chapters are more episodic so that’s nice if you’re starting and stopping a lot.

Amina’s Voice by Hena Khan
This middle grade novel is all about growing up, fitting in, and facing our fears. Amina’s biggest dream in life is to become a great singer, but there is one thing standing in her way…crippling stage fright

The Lost Kingdom of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine
Gail Carson Levine writes one of my all-time favorite books, Ella Enchanted, and she definitely knows her way around fantasy and strong heroines! This inspired by Rapunzel fantasy adventure is the prequel to The Two Princesses of Bamarre and let me tell you, it’s not your average princess story!

i will always write back

I Will Always Write Back: How One Letter Changed Two Lives by Martin Ganda & Caitlin Alifirenka
This is a fantastic non-fiction story of two international pen pals that start as a school project and become life long friends. I included this one on the 2018 Summer Reading Guide. (Full review here)

The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer
This is one of those books that I often recommend as a great book club book! It is a futuristic sci-fi book about a young clone and it won the National Book Award. It’s tons of fun and thought-provoking! (Full review here).

Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson
This is the April book for the 2025 Everyday Reading Book Club, and now is the perfect time to snag it! This one has been compared to The Princess Bride (so of course I was sold!). A fun adventure about pirates, a sorceress and plenty of magic.

Murdle Jr. Curious Crimes for Curious Minds by G. T. Karber
This is not a typical book deal, but I got these on sale for each of my kids for their Easter baskets! For kids who like brain teasers or Wordle type games, this version makes them the detective as they crack mystery after mystery. They have an adult version (also on sale!) if you think you would love doing these too!
