A Morning at Sephora
I’ve worn very little makeup almost all my life.
Up until a few months ago, I wore a little eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara. Occasionally, I’d put on some lipstick. I’m really lucky to have naturally good skin (thanks, Dad), so it wasn’t hard for me to get away with wearing no foundation or concealer.
But over the winter, I started to notice that my skin was starting to look a little bit. . . not 17 anymore.
I figured it was probably time to start wearing more makeup than your average 12-year-old, but I had zero idea where to even start.
So when Merrick arranged to visit the City Creek Sephora for a private makeup lesson while we were in Salt Lake City for Alt Summit, I was 100% on-board.
I’ve loved Sephora since Merrick and I spent an afternoon trying on makeup and painting our nails at the Paris Sephora on the Champs-Elysees back in 2006 when we went on London Study Abroad together.
I didn’t know, though, that Sephora did free makeup classes. They were super super helpful and I especially appreciated that they walked me through all the steps to do it myself (there’s nothing worse than leaving and thinking, “Well, I have zero ability to ever do that on my own, but I do look good right this minute”).
Merrick, Leanne, and Abby did some more advanced stuff, while I got a crash course on the basics.
Besides ditching the bottom lash mascara, my other newest discovery is lipstick (I know – how revolutionary am I?). In fact, I included it last week in my post about ways to improve an outfit in 10 seconds or less.
And now I finally understand why people totally love makeup. I’m only about 20 years slow.
What a FUN night!! And fun video. Now I want to go to Sephora and try everything on.
Sephora JUST started shipping to the UK – I'm ludicrously happy about this because as much as I love trying new things, sometimes you just want your old standbys.
That looks like so much fun! I could probably spent a whole day in Sephora playing with makeup.
This post is great, but the one I really love is the one about London Study Abroad. Leaving a comment there now.
Psh, I love putting mascara on my lower lashes because it makes my eyes look bigger! 🙂 I'm glad you feel more confident; I'm still not 100% confident in my ability to pull off most shades of lipstick!
Ooh! Thanks for the tip about no bottom lash mascara. I go back and forth between doing that because I've heard mixed things. But I trust and love Sephora, so I will cease and desist. I want to go there now!
That looks like so much fun! I love Sephora, but I had no idea that they did makeup classes!
xo,
Angela
This looks so fun! I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing when I put makeup on so I might have to hit up Sephora sometime soon too!
Sephora. A magical place.
that's so great, I'm totally going to go.
I learned some things from that video. I love that you ask look like a natural beauty. My only criticism is that you weren't in that video nearly enough, especially the last shot. I need more Janssen!
Still look, not ask look. Can't type on this kindle, sorry!!
