A Huge Weekend for November Book Deals
Happy Saturday! This morning I’m going to a community service project with my big girls and then hosting a kids movie night this evening.
I hope your weekend has some equally fun things on the docket!
There are some great book deals this weekend – here are some of my favorites!
Also, right now there is a big Audible sale going on with lots of audiobooks around $4.99 or $5.99 (you need to be an Audible member to take advantage of this sale, so if you aren’t, grab the current 99 cent deal going on. Even if you’re a previous member, it is worth taking 2 seconds to click and seeing if they offer it to you!). I’ve listed some of my favorite titles in the sale below, plus you can see them all on the Audible website!
How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success by Julie Lythcott-Haims
I love doing a parenting/child-development book during the back-to-school season, but this one is applicable during any season of parenting. (Full review here)
The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary
I was drawn in by the premise of this book – two people who live in the same apartment, but have never met – but then I was drawn in by the characters, the story and the unexpected humor. Tiffy is coming off a bad breakup and needs a new place in a hurry and Leon only uses his apartment for sleeping during the day since he works a graveyard shift. As the two start leaving notes for each other (at first slightly snippy), they slowly come to like each other but. . . they’ve still never met.
In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware
I’ve went on a huge Ruth Ware kick a few summers ago (I read five of her books between July and September) and this one just feels right as my next pick! Watch me accidentally read the rest of her books this year!
The Mostly True Story of Tanner & Louise by Colleen Oakley
Tanner, a young 21-year-old college dropout, needs a job and a place to live. Louise, a sharp witted 84-year-old, needs a full-time caregiver. As if the stars aligned, Tanner gets a job, and Louise gets a caretaker. This unlikely duo is content to ignore each other, that is until Tanner starts to feel like Louise is hiding something.
Finally Heard by Kelly Yang
I am a huge fan of Kelly Yang’s Front Desk, and this sequel to her book Finally Seen just came out earlier this year. It follows Lina, a ten-year-old who tries to navigate social media – only to find out that not everything online is what it seems. This one sounds so fitting in today’s technological world!
The Good Part by Sophie Cousens
This one reminds me a bit of What Alice Forgot, where the main character wakes up to find herself 16 years in the future, no longer an under-employed 20 something living with multiple roommates in a very dodgy flat but instead married with two lovely children, a gorgeous house and a very legitimate career. If you like Katherine Center books, she has a very similar writing style.
Bright Lights, Big Christmas by Mary Kay Andrews
I’ve actually NEVER read a book by Mary Kay Andrews, but this one has some rave reviews, so I’m willing to give her a shot and part of the fun of holiday reading is trying out new books!
The Lazy Genius Way by Kendra Adachi
This book is perfect as you think about what you want and how you can achieve it in the most effortless way. I love her focus on finding what works for YOU, whether it’s the kind of thing that works for anyone else or not, and her kind, gentle-humored style. Whether you’re new to Kendra or are already a fan of her podcast, this book is terrific.
The Kitchen Front by Jennifer Ryan
I really enjoyed this one, set in England during World War II. The BBC is looking for a new female host of their radio cooking show (a show meant to help women make decent meals during the strict food rationing brought on by the war), and four different women are determined to win the spot, each for different reasons.
Sarah, Plain and Tall Collection by Patricia MacLachlan
This audio collection includes the first three books in the beloved Newbery winning Sarah, Plain and Tall series. It includes Sarah, Plain and Tall, Skylark, and Caleb’s Story. Get ready to immerse yourself in life on the prairie! (This one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)
The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine
Gail Carson Levine writes one of my all-time favorite middle grade fantasies – Ella Enchanted. But I haven’t read this one filled with fairies, fantasy, and a perilous quest! (This one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)
Frog and Toad Audio Collection by Arnold Lobel
Read by the author, these are just SO delightful. They have fun music and I just feel happy whenever I hear these in the car or playing in our house. I love every single one of these sweet stories and my girls have listened to the whole collection a million times. (This one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)
Golden Gate by James Ponti
City Spies is the story of five kids from all over the world brought together to operate out of a secret MI6 base in Scotland, working on cases that adults can’t get anywhere near. It’s clever and funny and fast-paced and a total kid pleaser. This is the second book in the series which currently has 6 books. (This one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)
Greystone Secrets #1: The Strangers by Margaret Peterson Haddix
You can always count on Margaret Peterson Haddix for a fun ride – her books are endlessly inventive and clever, plus high action! (This one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)
Christmas with Anne by L. M. Montgomery
If you’re an Anne lover (as I am!), this collection of holiday Christmas stories from the author of these beloved books is absolutely charming. It doesn’t really matter if you’ve read Anne of Green Gables or not – two of the chapters are from the Anne books, but they stand alone, like the other stories in this book. Plus, at $1.99, now is the perfect time to start stocking up on those holiday reads!
