5 Great Book Deals for the Middle of January

Happy Saturday!

I’m looking forward to a low-key holiday weekend, including finishing up several books (I’m at that stage where I have 4-5 books all about half finished!) and breaking open our first Universal Yums box, which we got as a family Christmas gift.

At Home in the World

At Home in the World: Reflections on Belonging While Wandering the Globe by Tsh Oxenreider – ebook – $2.99
The first thing I have to say about At Home in the World is that I don’t usually like travel memoirs. The second thing I have to say about At Home in the World is that I LOVED it. Read the full review here.

dial a for aunties book

Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto – ebook – $4.99
This is the March book for The 2025 Everyday Reading Book Club List and now is the perfect time to snag it! I loved her book Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers (it made the Summer Reading Guide in 2023) and I’m excited to go back and read her earlier book about Meddelin Chan who ends up accidentally killing her blind date. And then, of course, her meddlesome mother plus a bunch of aunties get involved in helping dispose of the body.

Wormwood Abbey (Secrets of Ormdale series) by Christina Baehr – ebook – $2.99
Ani (my 6th grader) blew through this cozy gothic mystery series! Last month, a reader suggested The Secrets of Ormdale series saying she found it when she was looking for books with a similar vibe to the Emma M Lions series. The story follows a family that are dragon protectors in Victorian England – and has been a HUGE hit at our house. The rest of the books in this 5 book series are all under $4 right now!

fair play by eve rodsky

Fair Play by Eve Rodsky – audiobook – $5.99
I read this one in 2020 and I still think about it. It’s all about how to divide up household and family responsibilities between two parents and it was fascinating and eye-opening. LOTS of people suggested it when I asked for book recommendations that went along with 168 Hours. (Fair warning that it has quite a bit of swearing).

The Address Book: What Street Addresses Reveal About Identity, Race, Wealth, and Power by Deirdre Mask – audiobook – $3.99
I’d love to read more nonfiction this year, and this one sounds fascinating! It’s all about how streets were named, how houses got their numbers, and what that all has to do with our class, race, and identities.
