The Best Swimsuits for Tween and Teen Girls

A few weeks ago, I got two back-to-back messages about swimsuits for tweens.

One said “What about swimsuits for tweens who need a little chest coverage? I’m having a hard time finding something age-appropriate that’s not super padded and she thinks that’s awkward!”

And the second one said “Fellow girl mom! My 12 1/2 year old needs more chest coverage than a little girl swimsuit but not the cups of a women’s suit. She prefers a one piece. Any brands that have worked well for your girls in the in between?”

When I shared these messages on Instagram, my DMs exploded with people saying “Please share the answers! I’m in the same boat!”

Fortunately, there were plenty of good recommendations!

If you’re on the lookout for good tween and teen swimsuits this year, I hope you’ll find these helpful!

The 5 most mentioned brands for tween and teen swimsuits

Janela Bay

This swimsuit brand came up over and over again (and I’ve owned some of their swimsuits and agree that they are great!

One mom said “I love the Janela Bay brand for my girls . . . they have good chest coverage and are modest. They are a little pricey, but super nice quality!”

Another parent said “We love Janela bay for my tween (and myself). They can be pricey, but they usually have a clearance section for 50% off.” Definitely keep an eye on the sale section!

Waterslide Swim
$34 Swim Separates, $52 One Piece Swimsuits (use my affiliate code JANSSEN for 10% off!)

I had never heard of Waterslide Swim before, but it came up so many times. Once I checked out the website, I wasn’t surprised it was such a popular pick because it’s specifically designed for tweens who want more coverage without looking childish.

I ended up ordering ones for my 11 and 13 year olds who both love them!

One parents said, “My daughter loved her swimsuits from Waterslide Swim last summer (age 11) and I plan on getting more for this summer.”

Lands’ End
$40-$200 (they often have good sales, so keep an eye out!)

No surprise to see Lands’ End swimsuits on this list of recommendations! I grew up with Lands’ End suits and still love them! They are known for higher necklines, fuller bottoms, and quality fabric that holds up well to swimming and sun. Many parents said their petite or smaller women’s sizes can work well for tweens who want something less childish.

One mom said, “My daughter spent a decade on a competitive swim team and we were able to find practice suits there with higher chest and fuller bottom coverage!”

Rad Swim
$34-$62 (Use my affiliate code EVERYDAYREADING at checkout!)
One of my all-time favorite swimsuits was from Rad Swim and they are popular with older tweens and teens because the suits are stylish but still modest and secure. They also have tween specific section on their website which is awesome!

One mom said “Pricey but worth it for the tweens!”

Athleta
$34-$49 Swim Separates, $59-$69 One Piece Swimsuits
If your tween or teen loves a more sporty swimsuit, Athleta is for you! Most of their suits include light padding and athletic cuts that stay in place for swimming, paddleboarding, or beach activities.

One DM said “I found Athleta front zip suit offered the perfect coverage. A small pad in the chest area but nothing crazy.”
