What I’ll Remember about Summer 2021
Obviously the thing I’ll remember most about this summer is moving into our new house.
But I love these annual posts because it helps me remember all the smaller things that otherwise would just be buried under the few big things.
Here’s what I’ll remember from the summer of 2021.
Listening: to the soundtrack for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. My parents introduced my girls to it during Grancie Camp this summer and I’m loving it so much. I’m a sucker for clever lyrics and it doesn’t get much better than Joseph for me. Plus, my sisters and I did a million lip-synced dance routines to Joseph when we were growing up, so watching my girls fall in love with the same songs feels magical to me.
Visiting: the water park. We bought season passes this summer (my girls have been begging to go for years) and it’s been so fun to be able to go any time we want, even for just an hour or so. It closes pretty soon, so we’re trying to squeeze in a last few visits. It’s been such a memorable and fun part of our summer.
Playing: Splendor. We gave Ella the expansion pack for her birthday and she and I have been playing non-stop! Also there has been a resurgence of love for Hoot Owl Hoot.
Enjoying: The raspberries, blackberries and grapes in our new backyard. Raspberries are my #1 favorite fruit so being able to pick them in my own backyard is a total dream come true!
Learning: to swim. Star taught herself to swim the first week of summer at my parents’ pool and then practiced a ton for two months of swim team. Tally did swim lessons this month (she has just a few days left!) and it’s such a relief that she now has some basic swimming skills.
Attending: ALLLLL the family reunions. Both Bart and my families had reunions, and my dad and Bart’s mom’s families both had reunions as well. They were all different and all so lovely.
Watching: Ella’s soccer games. She got invited to join a city team by one of the other parents from swim team and she’s loved learning a new sport and it’s been fun for our family to go all together to the games. We got ourselves one of those pop up shade tents and we feel like legit suburban parents now.
Reading: allllll the Bob books and Learning Dynamic books with Tally. She’s been doing Savvy Reading since January and started knowing only a few letters. In early August, everything clicked for her and now she begs to practice with all our beginning books non-stop. It’s so fun to see her making so much progress so quickly.

I love that you do these lists; it inspired me to do them myself, even if I haven’t yet for this summer because I refuse to before Labor Day…even though my son will have been in school 3+ weeks by then! It’s also around 100° heat index during the day right now so hard to accept summer is over!
It’s crazy how imprinted some things are but then I forget them so quickly as the seasons change! So nice to have the lists to look back on!
