Sisters Share It All: Wardrobe Staples (Part 3)
And now for the final hurrah – how to put all those ten pieces into ten outfits (in my ideal world, I would have just worn the black shirt and jeans with ten different pairs of shoes, but my sisters said that wasn’t allowed).
Oh, you wanted a blow-by-blow of each outfit? I thought you’d never ask.
I love love love this outfit. My favorite black shirt, plus some fun pants. It makes me feel artsy. In a good way.
I also love wearing all black. And a pencil skirt makes me feel like a person who doesn’t buy all their clothing at Old Navy (even though I totally buy all my clothing at Old Navy. On the clearance rack).
I swear, these pink pants just make me happy. But perhaps it’s just the whole wearing-pants-without-an-elastic-waistband thing. Also, the me of two years ago is gaping at the fact I’m wearing not only colored pants but also leopard shoes. Self of two years ago? You know nothing about awesome.
Last time I wore my hair in a ponytail, Ella kept grabbing my face and saying, “You cut your hair?” Also, this gold belt was the best impulse buy ever.
I tried this dress on when I was about 4.5 months pregnant. Yeah. . . not happening. And I can’t actually wear this dress currently due to the nursing situation. I will just look longingly at it hanging in my closet.
This here is the pregnant looking picture. Skip.
Ignore how white my legs are. I’d claim it was because it was January, but. . . they’ll be exactly this shade in August too. I love sunscreen and I hate laying in the sun (I also hate lie/lay. I can never remember which one is the correct one. I generally just change the sentence to say something like “I hate resting in a sun chair. . . ” and avoid the whole dilemma).
And now a cookie for you for making it through this many pictures of me. While you eat your cookie (hopefully it is a really really good chocolate chip cookie), go check out Merrick and Landen’s outfits:
Thanks, Janssen! I feel like I just wear the same five pieces of clothing, but this was helpful to see all the ways you paired it. I, too, shop at the Old Navy clearance racks, but always fun to see someone else's findings.
Also, I appreciate how modestly you dress. My office dress code is pretty laid back and a lot of my coworkers (mostly female) dress way trendier than I do. So I often feel like I just look frumpy, rather than stylish but modest. So some good inspiration from you. Thanks!!
I love this series! Thanks for doing it. I have to say I might be a bit jealous of you ladies that live in warmer climates. I think the high here today is 4, so I will not be going anywhere. Meaning, no one will see me but my toddler and that makes it really hard to want to dress myself.
I love the Old Navy clearance rack, too. Ours doesn't have a maternity section (which I need right now), but last time I was pregnant I was able to buy some larger sizes and make them work, too. After reading about your deep love for your leopard flats, I just bought some on clearance at Target last week for $7.50!
You and your outfits are great! Thanks again.
can we get a what-what for jeans, tees and cute flats? substitute your blue jeans for colored jeans and that's what i wore all summer long (my office doesn't allow blue jeans, but i can get away with colored ones, haha!). and wearing all black always makes me feel tres chic even when my clothes are old and dumpy.
PINK PANTS! (You understand how I have to yell that impulsively.)
And you understand why I am about to type this little grammar spiel. In the usage you have up there, it's "lying." When it's reclining, it's "lie." When it's placing or putting something down, it's "lay." The tricky part is that the past tense (preterite, if that's helpful) of "lie" is "lay." Argh, English language! I wrote in more detail about it here, but the Fake Rule is that, almost all the time, it will be correct for you to use a form of "lie."
Hahahaha It's "lying" in this case, and, yeah, I hate that one. Usually both sound wrong to me. 🙂
I've totally shided away from bright-colored cords (especially with all your talk while I was still pregnant). Now…. darn it, those pink cords look so cute.
Amen to the white legs. It's just not worth it.
Excuse me… Didn't you just have a baby? I don't think so. There is no way I fit in my jeans and skirts yet and my stomach will not be seeing tight shirts for a loong time. You look amazing!
I love these posts. So fun to see similar items, different colors/ and patterns all perfectly paired.
I like your hair in that side pony!
These posts make me realize I have no idea how to dress myself. :/
And I love the leopard flats
Are you kidding? I was just thinking on Sunday how fantastic you looked (I loved that red skirt).
Love this! I want to go do this right now.
Very inspiring. I got a couple new shirts and a dress from Shade thanks to your sisters post. Rick thanks you too.
Love your outfits!! Too cute. 🙂
I came to look at your outfits, but I'm commenting because the ad in your right sidebar when I first landed on the page was for Fredericks of Hollywood, and the juxtaposition made me laugh.
You have convinced me that I need a pair of pink jeans or cords! The color is so pretty!
And hahahha ^^^ the above comment. I'm getting J.Crew and Zappos ads, if you're curious 🙂
Love these – very inspiring! My favorites are the artsy outfit (so cute), and the white top with pink pants & jeans. So simple and yet so put together and nice. Also: I am super jealous of your warm weather and the fact that you are able to wear short sleeves right now!
So this is a super shallow question and one I am sure you get all the time but how on earth do you and your sister stay so small while pregnant? Seriously. I would like some pointers and advice. I am currently 24 weeks pregnant and I swear I am bigger than you at 40 weeks. I know each woman carries differently but I am seriously interested in how what and how you and your sister do it.
Love the outfits by the way. I have pinned several of your recipes to try too. Fresh ground wheat, yum yum!
I think it's 90% genetic luck (maybe 99%?), sadly.
But I do try and exercise the entire pregnancy (with Ani, I ran until about three weeks before she was born, and I was walking four miles five days a week with Ella). And I know some people feel like pregnancy = eat whatever they want because the scale will go up anyway, but I feel like I'm going to gain weight, but I want to limit it to the degree possible, so I'm pretty careful about my eating while I'm pregnant.
These outfits are great! I am also totally impressed that you can buy all your clothes at Old Navy. I just bought some skinny jeans, the first item of clothing I've purchased there in years, and they actually fit me. But I must just have a problem body, because most of the time I hate the way their clothes look on my body.
And ditto to the commenter above! I hope I look as amazing as you and your sister do when I'm pregnant. 🙂
See, Gap is the store where practically none of their clothing looks good on me. Pants, shirts, skirts – it's pretty much all bad.
I think you always look super cute and well put together and I like the ponytail! You don't do that very often! And because of you, I've been on the lookout for some cute leopard flats!
I just found your blog! What cute outfits you put together! I especially love how your styled that green scarf, gonna have to borrow this idea. 😉
