No Spoilers, Because I’m Awesome Like That
On Monday afternoon, I wondered how long the waiting list for Breaking Dawn would be at the Austin Public Library. Because it doesn’t show you how many requests there are, you actually have to make the request to find out how long the list is. Imagine my shock to discover I was number FIVE on the list.
I was even more surprised to wake up yesterday to an email that said “Breaking Dawn is being held for you at the Central Library.”
And that’s how I ended up spending nearly my entire day yesterday reading Breaking Dawn.
Can I just mention how much I love Jacob? When Bella keeps asking to see him and he asks why and tells her that “you’re part of my family, Jake” is a crap answer, she asks what a good answer would be and he replies “How about ‘Jacob, I get a kick out of your pain,'” well, I was just laughing out loud.
Also, although the end wraps up pretty cleanly (too cleanly for some folks, apparently), I definitely think Stephenie Meyer left it open for some more books if she so chooses.
I’ve started reading the reviews on Amazon and wooboy, the haters are out in great numbers. I can see their point, but frankly, I wasn’t reading Breaking Dawn for help in making life decisions. And um, if there are teenagers making major choices based on a book about werewolves and vampires, well, they have bigger problems than whether or not to get married at eighteen.
It’s not my favorite of the books (Eclipse is my favorite, I think) but it’s not a bad conclusion to the series.
Now run off and read it so we can talk about it. Right now I’m clogging Kayla’s inbox with random Breaking Dawn thoughts. For her sake, please, read.
I'm halfway through it–seriously considered calling in sick today to stay home & finish it! (Darn moral code…)
Number five! There are like 2500 holds at our library so I bought it. I’ve reviewed it already on my blog if you care to take a look. I thought it was enjoyable.
I’m glad to hear it didn’t totally suck – I was disheartened by some of the reviews on Amazon (although I stopped reading them because I’m only through Twilight and I was finding out too much from the BD reviews!). I am going out today to buy New Moon and Eclipse and I’m on the wait list for BD at the library… I will be caught up soon. And then we will all need to form a support group, because honestly, I am a little scared of how obsessed I am by these books.
I’m with you. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It wasn’t my favorite – although there were parts that I LOVED. I kind of couldn’t believe that with some parts this book was still marketed toward young readers – but whatever.
I thought so much of the book was predictable as you read, but that didn’t stop me from reading on and enjoying it. In fact, in most cases, it pushed me to read on.
I agree, it wasn’t the best of the series. But really, what did people expect? She needed bring all of her open ends together and have an ending that would appeal to the crowds…because she created characters that people have grown to love (some a little too much!!).
It didn’t change my life (it wouldn’t have either way), but it was a well-done ending to an overall fantastic story!
With so many of my favorite bloggers loving the series, I am tempted to reconsider my “Eh” about Twilight and get the second one. I am totally put off by all the Twilight/Edward/Jacob love, and the obsessiveness, in ways that the Harry Potter obsessiveness didn’t bother me. I guess because HP was about the plot as much as the characters, and the Twilight fans are all about the boyz.
Anyway. I might request the second one. If I do, it’s your fault.
seirously we need to talk about how hysterically i was laughing through many moments of this book.
i am NOT a jacob fan but he had me laughing so much. not to mention emmett, and bella’s orginal comment about the nickname. i am a complete twilight addict so i of course adored this and all th books. 5 stars for me!
I can’t believe you were number five. As of this evening, I am number 309. I am really excited to read it though!
I like reading too cute …
My BFF was nice enough to let me read it before she did while I was visiting her last week. I really liked it, but it wasn’t my favorite of the four. I loved the titles of the chapters in Jacob’s book.
Finally finished!!! Ashley is here for a visit and I promised her I’d only read at bed time so we could spend the days together. Couldn’t do it! Ended up reading it out loud to each other (she’s already read it, but was eager to see where I was all the time!) I really liked it – ended the way I wanted as well as some good stuff I never would have thought of!
