What We Gave Ella for Her 15th Birthday

There is something so wild about your oldest child’s birthday – every time you enter a new, never-before-experienced age.

Fortunately, Ella makes it easy on us because she’s such a great teenager.

Here’s what we gave her for her 15th birthday this year:

iPad
We went back and forth about this because it’s such an expensive gift, but she really didn’t have anything else she wanted for her birthday and she’s VERY into art so the ability to do digital art was really important to her. Plus, she’s proved herself to be really responsible with her phone use over the past few years, so we decided to go for it. Her face when she opened it was such a delight – she was SHOCKED.

Athletic Shirts
We’ve been playing a ton of pickleball this summer (basically 6 mornings a week) and Ella only had one top she liked that had sleeves (which is a must when you’re out in the sun for 2-3 hours every morning). I picked out this pack for her and she’s been so happy to have more options.

Ani is a very thoughtful gift giver and she spent a lot of time looking for just the right gift for Ella and this was the biggest hit of the day (aside from the iPad!) since Ella loves to decorate fancy cakes.

Wickedly Popular Sticker Book
I got an early copy of this (it doesn’t come out until October) and this is what Star gave to Ella. She loves stickers and she loves Wicked, so it was a perfect fit (plus it has nail stickers and Ella loves doing nails!).

Owala Water Bottle
I really think Owalas are the best water bottles for popping in a bag (they don’t leak!) and Ella needed one for her pickleball bag (she’s been stealing my water bottle all summer), so this was a great pick from Tally who especially loved this shimmery one (it is way cuter than it looks in the photos).

Necklace
This was a birthday gift from my parents and Ella has been wearing it nonstop since she opened it – it’s nice to have a piece of higher end jewelry that goes with everything!

The Bletchley Riddle

Bart’s parents always give the grandkids a book for their birthday and this was the one they picked this year. Ani and I actually listened to this one together last fall on our trip together but Ella hasn’t read it and I think she’ll love it!

  1. Please tell me more about her phone use, what she has, what you allow, and how you think she’s learned to be responsible with it!

    1. She has a Gabb phone with talk, text, and group text (and she can send and receive photos). Phones aren’t allowed in our kids rooms, and get charged in a family spot at night.
