4 Books I’m Currently Reading
This is a fun time of year when I’m reading up a storm picking final titles for the Summer Reading Guide (it comes out in two weeks!).
Here are four books I’m reading right now

Everything Is Tuberculosis by John Green
I’ve been waiting for this book for a long time, ever since I listened to and loved The Anthropocene Reviewed a few years ago and I’m blowing through it on audio (it is read by the author which makes it extra fun). I knew next to nothing about tuberculosis and this is a fascinating look at the disease and how much it is woven into culture and history.
The Great Brain by John D. Fitzgerald
I know not everyone loves this series (there is a child who loses a leg and contemplates suicide in one chapter), but it was one of my absolute favorites growing up and my kids love it too. Once we finished the Harry Potter series, we needed a new family listen that we can pop in and out of and this was the winner, since all of my kids have listened to it before. It’s so fun to relisten to these outrageous stories of three brothers, one of whom has a “great brain” that he’s always using to try to swindle his siblings and friends out of their money and possessions.
Alone by Megan E. Freeman
SO many people told me they couldn’t keep this book on the shelf in their libraries or classrooms so I used my monthly Amazon Music listen for it. It was a quick listen because it is a novel in verse about a girl who is left entirely alone in her Colorado town when a mysterious evacuation order happens but she’s sleeping over at her grandparents’ empty apartment while both her divorced parents think she’s at the other’s home. After the initial shock, she realizes if she’s going to survive, it’s up to her to figure out how to do it.
The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman
I have heard about this series for YEARS and finally snagged it when the first book was on sale as an ebook for a few dollars. I’m loving this mystery story about four people in a retirement community who are determined to figure out who the murderer is and they’ll insert themselves into the police investigation as much as they can, thank you very much!
And here’s what my team is reading right now!

The Dutch House by Ann Patchett
I was SO happy when this came up on my holds because I LOVED her other book, Tom Lake. Also, Tom Hanks is the narrator, which was extra enticing. This story is told by Danny, the youngest and only son of the Conroy family. It follows Danny throughout five decades of his life, with a big focus on the strong bond he has with his sister and how getting kicked out of the Dutch House by their stepmother at a young age shaped their entire lives. I’m invested so far and I could be wrong, but I don’t think I’m going to love it as much as Tom Lake.
Kelsey
Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors
I don’t know what it was about this book…but I was so drawn into the lives of the Blue sisters. Living in different cities and living very different lives, the Blue sisters come together to face the first anniversary of their sister Nicky’s death. I found myself wanting to know more, rooting for them, yelling at them, and crying with them. There are some heavier topics in this one – addiction, overdose, and a few open door scenes.

A Room with a View by E.M. Forster I’m reading A Room with a View by E.M. Forster for my neighborhood book club. It’s a charming and thought-provoking novel that follows Lucy Honeychurch, a young English woman, as she travels through Italy and returns home to England. While in Florence, Lucy meets George Emerson, whose unconventional views and emotional honesty begin to challenge her sheltered worldview. Back in the rigid confines of Edwardian society, Lucy struggles to reconcile her feelings and societal expectations. With humor and insight, Forster invites us to consider what it means to truly live with authenticity and passion.

The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer
I haven’t finished listening to this yet but I can already tell it’s going to make an impact on how I live my life. This is a faith-based read that draws from Jesus’ own practices—silence, Sabbath, simplicity, and slowing down—to show how a less hurried life can deepen our spirituality. I’m already thinking about the ways his ideas and suggestions could help me make some big changes in my life and I’ve ordered the hardcover to start marking up so I can refer back to it again and again.
I feel like the narrator is the very best part of “Thursday Murder Club.” Highly recommend as an audiobook.
I am so glad you are finally reading the Thursday Murder Club! That series is one of my most recommended. The whole premise is just so delightful and I agree with Angela… the audiobook version made me feel like I was chatting with my grandparents!
Yay for The Thursday Murder Club and The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry! Both of top of my most recommended list.
