Crossed by Ally Condie (a very brief review)

If you’re looking for an example of why people think middle books of trilogies are just filler books, Crossed is your book.

Prepare yourself for many many pages of wandering in canyons.

(Not that I’m not still looking forward to the final book).

  1. This seems to be the consensus from the reviews I have read. I already wasn't in love with Matched, so I am not sure I am going to try Crossed.

  2. I'm a little ways into it right now, and I keep waiting for something really good to happen. Good to know I don't have to hold my breath!

  3. Oh Janssen . . you took the words out of my mouth!! I couldn't wait for it to come and was excited that my husband had happy hour the night it was to arrite on my doorstep because I was sure that I would be in my own world for the night until I finished it, but I have to tell you — I haven't finished it yet. . It sits on my nightstand and there just isn't a drive to finish it! I will probably tonight . . but it has been quite a letdown! But not every second book in a trilogy can be Catching Fire! I am looking forward to Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver and hope it won't disappoint like Crossed did. Like you, though I will give Condie the chance to redeem herself with # 3!

  4. Ah heck, really? I haven't read it yet, our libraries are sooo slow to get new books in. I was looking forward to this one 🙁

  5. Saw the first today at the store and stopped to read the review because it said, "This year's Hunger Games!" So I read the tag line and thought, "This plot sounds familiar . . . why is that . . ." Then I read an ecstatic critic who said, "Think 'The Giver' only sexier." Ah. That is where I've heard of the plot. So she steals the very cool mind and population control plot but takes out all the innocence of childhood and beauty of shared memory; she stills the big brother control of everything in Hunger Games but leaves out all the exciting plot elements and opts instead for the love triangle. It might as well be Twilight. Blech.

  6. That is terribly disappointing. I think I'll just wait until the third one comes out, that way I can be disappointed by the second one and start the third right away and hope for redemption.
