Book Deals for the Weekend of September 12th
My birthday is on Monday, which means I plan to make the whole weekend a birthday celebration!
And of course that means some good reading! (I just started book 5 of this fall romance series and it is so fun!)

Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry – audiobook – $5.99
This is one of those fantasy‑romance books that’s been on my TBR list for ages! It’s a slow‑burn, high‑stakes story about Princess Odessa, whose life gets completely upended when she’s betrothed to Prince Zavier and thrown into a world of ancient magic, monsters, and looming war. I am not a huge fantasy fan (or even romantasy fan), but I am trying to step out of my comfort zone and this one’s been a huge favorite in the fantasy community.
The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin – audiobook – $5.99
I LOVE Gretchen Rubin and this book, which really made a name for her. It is so delightful and perfect for a reset time, which is what I see the beginning of a new year as. (Full review here)
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson – audiobook – $5.99
High school senior Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself five years ago. It was a huge story, but Pip, now a senior herself, feels like something is wrong about the well-known story. And she’s going to be the one to find out what REALLY happened. I listened to the first two books in the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series (the audio is terrific – it’s a full-cast production and really brings the story to life).
The Alice Network by Kate Quinn – audiobook – $5.99
Kate Quinn always comes highly recommended for historical fiction novels. Embarrassingly, I haven’t yet gotten around to reading The Alice Network, about two women spies in both World War I and World War II.
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelide – ebook – $2.99

A Bridge Across the Ocean by Susan Meissner – ebook – $1.99
Susan Meissner is always one of the most highly recommended historical fiction writers when I am needing recommendations. This one about two European war brides who board the Queen Mary in 1964, and only one of them makes it off in New York sounds really good!
Blended by Sharon M. Draper – ebook – $1.99
I really enjoyed this one when I read it for my Children’s Lit Book Club! Eleven-year-old Isabella splits her weeks between her Black dad’s house and her white mom’s house, and as her parents’ divorce grows messier, she starts realizing that switching between two homes also means switching identities.
Half Broke Horses: A True-Life Novel by Jeannette Walls – ebook – $2.99
I don’t know if it was my low-expectations or what, but after a bit of a slow start, I really enjoyed it when my book club read it years ago! (Like her most famous book, The Glass Castle, there are some hard to read scenes).
Land of Stories 6 book set by Chris Colfer – ebook – $1.99
$1.99 is a great deal for one book, but $1.99 for a 6 book series is a smoking deal! Alex and Conner, sister-brother twins, open up a beloved book of stories only to find themselves sucked into the book. In a mysterious land where magic runs rampant, they find themselves interacting with fairy tale characters they’ve heard about all their lives. The real question is. . . can they ever get home? This series has been especially popular in my house!
Die With Zero: Getting All You Can from Your Money and Your Life by Bill Perkins – audiobook – $5.99
I love a good money book, but this one is very different than any other money book I’ve ever read and Bart and I have been talking about it to everyone we know for the last several years. It’s been such a fascinating and useful way to think about how I spend my life and what I want out of the money I make. It feels like one of those books that almost everyone would get something out of – this is a top 10 non-fiction of all time for me.
