A Baby

Yesterday was my first doctor’s appointment (yes, I didn’t go in until I was over 19 weeks along. Blah, blah, blah, insurance, boring fiscal year baloney, etc).

The good news about waiting until you are 19 weeks along – besides the opportunity to give the nurse a scathing look behind her back when she asks if you’ve already had a positive pregnancy test (I’ll see your positive pregnancy test and raise you 6 weeks of nausea and 3 weeks of kicks in the stomach) – is that you get an ultrasound on the very first visit.

And not just any ultrasound.

THE ultrasound.

And, after confirming that our baby had four heart chambers and two kidneys and the requisite number of arms and legs, the ultrasound tech announced that this baby is a . . . .

GIRL!
(oh, a giant blank? Try highlighting that blank space – I don’t want to make it TOO easy).

I may possibly have burst into tears when she told me, I was so happy. With Ella, I didn’t feel like I had a strong preference for a boy or a girl, but this time, I was really hoping that it would be a girl.

(My favorite thing the ultrasound tech said to me was, “Okay, I’m going to turn it on 3D now. Your baby will look weird. Don’t freak out.”)

  1. Yay! Congratulations! I know exactly what you mean….I didn't have any strong preference for my first child, either (which was a girl), but I so wanted a girl (which I had) the second time. As you know, sisters are so much fun!

  2. YAY!! I had a feeling you'd be having a girl- I just did- haha- so excited for you!! Ella will be a great big sister!! sisters (As you know) are AWESOME!!

  4. HOOOOORAYYYYY!!!! (I couldn't get all my enthusiasm out in the very quiet doctors office yesterday, so I have to do it somewhere!)

I'm so excited that we're both having the same gender the second time around! How lucky for our first two to have a built in best friend, just like we had!

  5. So thrilled for you! Congratulations and welcome to the multiple girls club. I quite like it. 🙂

  7. Yay!! SO happy for you! That will be so special for Ella. I've always said that the next time around I want a boy so I can have one of each. And I do want a boy sometime but lately I'm hoping the next one (whenever it arrives) is a girl so Addie can have a sister close in age!

  8. That's very exciting for you! Congratulations! I'm sure Ella will love having a little sister too!

Also, I didn't go into the doctor until I was nearly 19 weeks too… partly because of insurance and partly because I just couldn't decide on a doctor I wanted to see. AND since I've done the pregnant thing a few times, I could tell if anything was seriously wrong as I'm sure you would have too.

  9. Yay!!! How exciting!! Ella will be the cutest big sister!

And from a boring and practical standpoint I'm a smidge jealous you can reuse her clothes!!

  10. Oh how exciting Janssen!!! Merrick with two boys and you with two girls – what a blast! I am so happy for you.

  11. Having another baby of the same sex can make living less expensive (at least for the time being). Teasing aside, the best part is that the baby is okay. Congratulations to you and Bart.

  12. Best. Post. Ever. I totally want my second kid to be the same gender as my first one… If I have a say.

And that highlighting thing made my day. I might have to steal that one in the future.

  13. I can't stop thinking about how adorable Ella is going to be with her! You will have so much fun with your 2 girls!

  14. Congratulations!!!! I'm so happy when the Mama is happy and is able to enjoy the baby!
And since you care…I reeeeaaalllly bad wanted a boy the first time (and got him!) and with the second I didn't care about gender but I reeeaaallllyyy wanted a healthy baby (after a few VERY tense weeks of thinking we had lost the baby) and I got a healthy baby girl!

  15. Congratulations! That is fun news. I hope that one day my daughter can have a little sister, or brother. She's asking for one on a daily basis.

  16. Yay! I have 3 sisters so I was kind of hoping it was a girl myself. (Not that it's weird that I had a gender preference for YOUR baby, right? 🙂

  17. Hooray! How exciting! I don't have any kids yet but girls seem like they would be such fun. 😉

  18. A sister, how fun! I have an older brother and I always wished there had been a third kid so I could have a sister. My older brother and his friends were a pain. We have a boy and a girl and for our third (!!!) I'm hoping it's another girl…..if only so I can live out my adolescent dream through them.

  19. Congratulations! This makes me feel better about not having gone to the doctor yet. I am 11 weeks along with my third, but my husband is switching jobs so I'm waiting until the new insurance kicks in which will be about another month. I hope I get to find out the gender on the first visit, too! Love your blog! Right up my alley!

  20. Congratulations! I come from a family of all girls so I'm kinda partial to girls! Though, of course, I also love my third child who is a boy. 🙂
