A Baby
Yesterday was my first doctor’s appointment (yes, I didn’t go in until I was over 19 weeks along. Blah, blah, blah, insurance, boring fiscal year baloney, etc).
The good news about waiting until you are 19 weeks along – besides the opportunity to give the nurse a scathing look behind her back when she asks if you’ve already had a positive pregnancy test (I’ll see your positive pregnancy test and raise you 6 weeks of nausea and 3 weeks of kicks in the stomach) – is that you get an ultrasound on the very first visit.
And not just any ultrasound.
THE ultrasound.
And, after confirming that our baby had four heart chambers and two kidneys and the requisite number of arms and legs, the ultrasound tech announced that this baby is a . . . .
I may possibly have burst into tears when she told me, I was so happy. With Ella, I didn’t feel like I had a strong preference for a boy or a girl, but this time, I was really hoping that it would be a girl.
(My favorite thing the ultrasound tech said to me was, “Okay, I’m going to turn it on 3D now. Your baby will look weird. Don’t freak out.”)

Congratulations!!!! I'm so happy when the Mama is happy and is able to enjoy the baby!
And since you care…I reeeeaaalllly bad wanted a boy the first time (and got him!) and with the second I didn't care about gender but I reeeaaallllyyy wanted a healthy baby (after a few VERY tense weeks of thinking we had lost the baby) and I got a healthy baby girl!
Sisters!! Congratulations! I love having sisters. I'm still hoping Kalena will get one someday.
yay!!!
wow! I can't believe you are that far already. That is awesome!! Congrats on a sister for Ella!
But the real question is did the baby look weird in 3D?
Congratulations! That is fun news. I hope that one day my daughter can have a little sister, or brother. She's asking for one on a daily basis.
Oh yay! I think you know how I feel about two little sisters. Love love.
This serves to deepen our connection, clearly.
Yay! I have 3 sisters so I was kind of hoping it was a girl myself. (Not that it's weird that I had a gender preference for YOUR baby, right? 🙂
Hooray! How exciting! I don't have any kids yet but girls seem like they would be such fun. 😉
How very exciting, congratulations!
A sister, how fun! I have an older brother and I always wished there had been a third kid so I could have a sister. My older brother and his friends were a pain. We have a boy and a girl and for our third (!!!) I'm hoping it's another girl…..if only so I can live out my adolescent dream through them.
Congratulations! This makes me feel better about not having gone to the doctor yet. I am 11 weeks along with my third, but my husband is switching jobs so I'm waiting until the new insurance kicks in which will be about another month. I hope I get to find out the gender on the first visit, too! Love your blog! Right up my alley!
Congratulations! I come from a family of all girls so I'm kinda partial to girls! Though, of course, I also love my third child who is a boy. 🙂
