A Day in the Life: Fall 2022 Edition
5:44 a.m. I wake up just before my alarm goes off. I get up, dress as fast as I can in my workout clothes that I laid out the night before, brush my teeth and hair, and head to the gym.
6:00 a.m. An hour of weightlifting flies by because one of my friends is there and she tells me all about a recent trip she took. I chat with another friend in the parking lot for a few minutes and then hop in my car and drive home, listening to my audiobook.
7:15 a.m. I say hi to Ani and Star who are eating breakfast in the kitchen and then go into my bathroom to shower. I get dressed, do my hair and makeup and then make my bed.
7:45 a.m. The girls are doing their nails at the kitchen table, so I sit down to read for a few minutes – I start Stepping Stones by Lucy Knisley. Star comes in and tells me she can’t find her homework packet for the week and keeps forgetting to ask her teacher for a replacement one, so she brings me my laptop and I send her teacher an email.
8:15 a.m. I turn on Tangled for Star and braid her hair for school – it takes me about three minutes and then we turn it off and the girls gather up their backpacks and shoes and we head out.
8:25 a.m. We pick up the little boy we carpool with and I drop off Star and Ani at their respective schools. Usually I have Tally with me, but she was still sleeping when I left, so it’s just me on the drive home. As I drive past the elementary school, I realize it’s the perfect time to buy tickets for the school fall festival and I swing in and buy tickets for each of the girls. Our former next door neighbor is there too and we chat in line and as we walk back to our cars.
8:45 a.m. I get home and Tally is still snoozing, so Ella suggests we make a reel together. We listen to a couple of audios until we find something we like and have a concept for and then film it a few times until we get it right. I head into my office to get a little work done on this weekend’s book deals while Ella heads to school and Tally is still snoozing.
9:05 a.m. I hear Tally calling for me and head into the living room. We snuggle up on the couch and finish reading Dracula’s Daughter and then read a couple of library books she’d picked out the night before.
9:30 a.m. We go into the kitchen and I set her up some breakfast and start some vegetables cooking for my breakfast. While it cooks, we play a few games of Gnomin’ A Round. I finish up my breakfast and bring it to the table and eat it while we play another three or four games.
10:00 a.m. I send Tally to her room to get dressed and get her room straightened up and I unload the dishwasher while she’s gone. Bart comes in to help with the dishes and we chat for a few minutes until Tally comes back up. I do her hair while she watches a few minutes of a show, then I get her set up for her Savvy Reading class in our room.
10:30 a.m. While she does Savvy, I sit down at my desk and respond to emails and IG messages. I make a list of things to do during my work day and then get started on this post. Bart comes in asking if I know where the lock for our electric scooter is – it sat on the kitchen buffet for weeks when it first came and now neither of us can remember where it eventually got stashed. We look around and find it in our bedroom dresser.
10:55 a.m. Tally’s done with Savvy and I turn on an audiobook for her and she settles in at the dining table next to my office to color and listen during quiet time. I write a review of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and send that off to my assistant to edit and schedule.
11:55 a.m. I get Tally set up with some lunch while she gets her shoes and backpack and then I sit down at the piano to play for a few minutes while she eats. When she’s done, we head out to school and I drop her off, then come home and chat with Bart for a few minutes while he eats lunch at the kitchen table. Now back to work! I update this post draft an email, send some messages, and then settle in to answer questions about the Audible sale on Instagram.
1:40 p.m. Audible questions answered and now it’s time for a quick snack – I get some HerGreens and a plate of apple slices with peanut butter and head right back to my desk.
2:30 p.m. I write a post about how to take the Savvy Reading or Savvy Math assessment for free and then gather up materials for a reel. I film it and then sit back down at my desk to edit it and write the caption. I hear Ella come home from school and then Bart come up from his office to go pick up the other girls from school.
3:15 p.m. I wrap up the last of my work just as the girls get home from school. I help everyone get set up with a snack (it’s always a smoothie for Star) and clean up the kitchen a little bit.
4:00 p.m. The three little girls are all having a rough time getting along and I take Tally into my room to read some Lola Levine together. After about 40 pages, I can tell I’m getting super tired and I send her off to play, turn on my sound machine, and lay down for a quick nap before I have to take the girls to tumbling. I sleep for about 10 minutes (I was hoping for 20) when one of the girls yelling wakes me up, but I feel much better now and I go into the kitchen and get the onions sautéing for the tomato soup I’m making for dinner.
5:00 p.m. I gather up the girls and we swing by two other houses to pick up the girls we carpool with and then I drop them all off at tumbling. On the way home, I stop by the fruit stand and pick up a big box of pears and a big box of peaches (each are seconds, so they’re nearly half off!). I go home, film a few clips for a reel, then work on dinner and set the table. Bart comes up and does the dishes I’ve used and then heads out to pick up the girls.
6:30 p.m. Everyone is home and we sit down for dinner. Bart and I don’t eat much because we’re going out for cheese and chocolate fondue with Bart’s parents and sister (this was our birthday gift to Bart’s dad a few weeks ago) and we don’t want to be too full to enjoy it. Bart does the dishes and the girls get ready for bed and I change my shirt, brush my hair and teeth and then, at her insistence, tuck Tally into bed even though she’s already told me she’s immediately getting OUT of bed because it’s only 6:45 and too early to go to bed. Bart’s parents pull up and we hop in with them and head to Taste.
7:05 p.m. We arrive at Taste and have a delightful time with the cheese fondue course and then the chocolate fondue course. Afterward, we browse the regular menu and check out all their speciality chocolates. When we walk outside, the air feels crisp and it’s starting to smell like fall!
8:30 p.m. We get home and Ella and Tally come out of their rooms to say hi. We clean up a bit, tuck them into bed and both of us get ready for bed. I finish the book I’ve been reading (Starfish) and then Bart turns on A Knight’s Tale, which we haven’t watched in YEARS.
10:30 p.m. After about 45 minutes of watching, we shut off the lights, I turn on my alarm, and it’s time for bed. Good night!
What lifting program do you follow?
that is a long day! Very productive though!
Wow, that’s great that your husband also works from home and can help so much with the daily family schedule! I’ll admit I’m a bit jealous. 😂
It is MAGICAL. After all the years of him traveling so much for work or working until midnight as a CPA, I’ll never take it for granted!
I have so many questions! How does Ella get to school? Who babysits while you go out at night? Is Ella old enough to babysit now (if yes, woohoo!). I’m also very jealous of your school start time – my boys middle school late bell is at 7:55 am, so we are loading up at 7:25 to leave for the 20 min drive at 7:30 am.
Ella is old enough to babysit now (she turned 12 this past summer). We’ve been waiting for this day for so long!
