Raiding My Sister’s Closet: DIY Leopard Shoulder Dress
I bought my first pair of leopard anything in the form of shoes two and a half years ago, and I was immediately a fan. Now I want all the leopard things (I currently have one leopard thing (this scarf) and it’s packed in a box in the garage in the house we no longer rent in North Carolina).
So when we decided to each do something fun to this black Old Navy dress as part of Summer of No Pants, I knew right away I wanted something leopard.
I’m so so happy with this dress – when I wore it to church on Sunday, Bart said, “I really like that dress.”
And so do I. Plus, I think I’ll be able to wear it through most of this pregnancy (all hail the midi length which means it’ll be knee-length when I’m 7 months along). Win.
Also, can I make a confession? I totally didn’t sew these shoulder patches on.
(Excuse time) I don’t have a sewing machine here in Arizona (you’re shocked it didn’t make the baggage allowance when we flew from North Carolina), so I borrowed Kayla‘s and when my mom came down for Ella’s birthday, we were going to sew it then, but we felt like sitting on the couch instead.
And then Kayla needed her sewing machine back, and my mom said “How about I just take it back with me and send you the finished dress” and I said, “If you must. I guess I’ll just have to let you.”
So no real tutorial here . . .
But hey, I bet it’s easy. Cut out some shoulder patches, iron the edges under, sew them on. Boom. If you have questions, email my mom.
Love the dress too! But did I miss something?? Did you announce "this pregnancy" or is this big news? Congrats either way! Hope you are feeling GREAT!
I just announced on Friday here: https://everyday-reading.com/2014/08/durham-north-carolina.html. And thanks! (Sadly, I'm still in the 'not feeling amazing' portion of pregnancy).
This literally made me laugh out loud–" If you have questions, email my mom. "
Wait, you're pregnant?!? Congratulations!!
I am! Due in mid-February.
Like the other girls above said… you're pregnant? Since when? I must have missed that post. Congrats!
I just barely announced last week here: https://everyday-reading.com/2014/08/durham-north-carolina.html. And thanks! We're excited.
Haha! I love it. I'll email your mom. 🙂
What size are you wearing? I never know how to order online?!!
ow ow! um…I REALLY like that dress. I need a new good lbd
I see a little bump in those first few pictures! 🙂
"Have my mom do it" is the answer to all my sewing conundrums. And when I say conundrums, I mean every single sewing project.
I'm a little slow….completely missed the big announcement in the previous post. Congratulations!
i always love your blog, but the way you ended this post with "no real tutorial here . . . if you have questions, email my mom" seriously made me laugh out loud! i always love a little wit and real personality in the blogs i read, and anyway, that comment just made me like you and your blog even more!
