Glorious Fridays

I’m always happy when Friday rolls around, but today I’m feeling especially glad that it’s Friday. I can’t even pinpoint why this week has felt so busy, exactly, but every day has just raced by and I’m suddenly scrambling to get Ella to bed on time. We have a few fun plans for the weekend (including our Pi Day party which had to be postponed because of a church activity last night).

The real highlight of this week (besides the amazing weather) is that Ani is becoming so much more interactive and fun. She’s awake for longer stretches of time and starting to laugh. Here, let me bore you with a little video of her giggling, like the mommyblogger I am:

On a much more depressing note, you’ve likely heard that Google Reader is going away in July. I’ve been using Google Reader since December of 2005 and now I’m scrambling to find a replacement. Anyone have suggestions? I’d like something that’s not too visual (like Flipboard, which I already use for a few blogs but I don’t find that it works well for my regular blog reading), and that has keyboard shortcuts. I am seriously distraught over losing my beloved Google Reader.

And thank you for reading a couple of sponsored posts this week – I don’t tend to do many of them, but some bad scheduling on my part clumped three of them together in less than a week. The last one is scheduled for next week and then it’ll be back to exciting. . .whatever is exciting around here. Probably vegan recipes and YA books.

  1. My husband and I are both google reader users, and quickly sought out a replacement. We recommend feedly.com You login with your google id and it automatically pulls all your feeds into your new account for you.
Thanks again for the Austin tips! Mike has accepted UT's offer. If Brent is ever in town we'll make him go see Bart!

  2. Always love a smiley, laughing baby! I was in despair about Google Reader. Why does Google hate us so much to take it away from us?! As for me, I am leaning towards replacing it with The Old Reader which have gotten good buzz and is very similar to GR. Check it out here: http://theoldreader.com/

  3. Maybe I am the only one, but I don't even use Google Reader, so I didn't even know it was shutting down until I saw things popping up on blogs. I just use the "Reading List" at the bottom of my blogger dashboard page and click the link to go directly to people's blogs because I like the aesthetics of blog design. Maybe I'm just crazy though. 😛
What a cute laughing baby! There is really something wonderful about every stage of babyhood/childhood. 🙂

  4. Google reader kept adding back blog's I'd deleted a while ago, so I switched to bloglovin' a few months ago. I like the simplicity, and I love and hate that the suggested blogs feature isn't there. It doesn't suck me in as much… but it also doesn't suck me in as much.

  5. I'm using Feedly since yesterday too, and I like it. It was easy to convert (just logged in with my google account) and everything was there. The only change I had to make was to put all of my blogs in categories because it reads better that way (most of them were anyway, and they came over just fine). There's a lot of customization too which is nice.

  6. When I am on the computer I just use the reader on Blogger. But on my iPad I use Feeddler and I really like it. It is very similar to the reader app on my phone.

  7. Cutest baby!!

Yes, please update all of us what you learn about different readers. I'm so upset about this!

  8. My husband and I are also deeply saddened by the loss of Google Reader. He did some searching and suggests Feedly, but I haven't been able to bring myself to make the switch just yet.

Also, I am not a big kid person, but your children are just so adorable. And I loved the post about your ice cream baby shower – ice cream is my favorite food too!

  9. I love when they laugh so hard and then are back to a straight face in a split second.

I'm so anxious to meet her! Come visiiiiiiitttt!!

  10. I don't mind the sponsored posts – I think you incorporate them very well. I'm sad about google reader, too; I've heard rumors they'll be hooking up a new Google Reader-esque option on Google+ to replace it.

  11. I love laughing babies!

I do not love the loss of Google Reader and haven't decided what to do about it. I used Bloglines for several years before moving to GR… maybe back to that?

  12. Oh, and I love, love, love her name! I kind of want you to name my kids. I think we have similar taste and it would take the stress off me. 🙂

  13. Oh my is she ever adorable!
I switched to bloglovin' the other day, so far I like it. It makes it easier for me to leave comments which I generally think is beneficial!

  14. I…maybe snorte in laughter at the picture of the dog on ani. They are the cutest.

    Also, google reader, don't gooooo!
