Book Deals for the Weekend of August 8th
This week has felt like summer in the best way
Staying up too late with Bart and Ella to watch the second season of High Potential (we’re late to the party because the last year and a half have been consumed with working through all eight seasons of Castle!)
Boating with friends
Pickup games of pickleball
Trips to the water park
What could be better?
I’m excited for a weekend with lots of reading and enjoying a few last days of summer before school starts again.
And there are some great book deals going on! Here are some you won’t want to miss:

The Art of Spending Money: Simple Choices for a Richer Life by Morgan Housel – ebook – $2.99
I can never say no to a finance book, and this one sounds like it would be really good for my scarcity mindset. Instead of focusing on budgets or investing, this one explores how we spend our money – and how making more intentional choices can lead to a happier, more satisfying life.

This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub – ebook – $1.99
I listened to and loved this story about a woman who in her late thirties goes to sleep and mysteriously wakes up on the morning of her 16th birthday, back in the 90s. There are wonderful and terrible things about this, but the most important thing is that her beloved father, who is slipping away in the present, is young and healthy in this alternate past.

How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell – audiobook – $4.99
Ella listened to this whole series and loved every second of it. My sister has three boys and they are obsessed with it too. There are 13 books in the series and these stories of Vikings and dragons are fast paced and delightful. (Plus, this one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)

Meet Me in the Margins by Melissa Ferguson – audiobook – $3.99
This is such a cute fun romance! An editor at Savannah’s dream publishing company is asking for the manuscript of a romance novel she has been secretly writing behind the scenes, while working at a different publishing company. She hides her manuscript in a hidden room, but later discovers someone has found it and started jotting very critical edits in the margins. This mystery editor is not only helping make her manuscript better, but could she be falling for him too?

The Terrible Two by Mac Barnett & Jory John – audiobook – $2.99
Ella and I listened to it together several years ago (all of my kids went on and listened to the rest of them one million times) and it’s hilarious about two boys trying to out-prank each other. Now, all of my girls can recite pretty much the entire book from memory because they’ve listened to it so many times. (Plus, this one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)

The Happy Life of Isadora Bentley by Courtney Walsh – audiobook – $3.99
I listened to this story about a reclusive university researcher who has given up on love (and basically all relationships) on my runs last summer and it was a nice distraction from the miles I was pounding out. The heroine is Isadora who finds a magazine article with 31 ways to be happy and decides she’s going to prove the author wrong – she’ll do all 31 things and there is no way she’ll be happier at the end. Right? This is a squeaky-clean love story with a STEM storyline and it’s a fun, fluffy delight.

The Third Gilmore Girl by Kelly Bishop – audiobook – $4.99
This was the first book I listened to in 2025 and the audio is a MUST! It has Kelly Bishops very distinct voice – plus, it’s so fun to hear a memoir read by the author themselves. It is quick, engaging, and a great combination of things I did know (Gilmore Girls!) and things I didn’t know (everything ELSE about her life besides being on Gilmore Girls).

No Purchase Necessary by Maria Marianayagam – audiobook – $3.99
This is the August book club pick for 2026 and I often like to read them aloud to my kids during the summer. It is about a boy who gets peer-pressured into stealing a candy bar and then, when the boy who told him to do it, rejects it, he opens it to discover it is a million dollar prize winning candy bar.
