Book Deals for the First August Weekend

Now that we’re in to August, it feels like the end of summer is right around the corner!

When I get up for a run in the morning, it’s not as light as it was a few weeks ago and there’s the tiniest bit of a fall feel in the air in the mornings and evenings!

But summer reading lives on a for a bit more! Here are some of my favorite books on sale this weekend.

really good non-fiction

Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World by Cal Newport – ebook
Okay, I KNOW I need to re-read this book every year. In this age of so much distraction, I love his hands-on ideas for how to really focus and get the things that matter to you done. If you feel pulled in all directions by your phone or social media and like you aren’t able to focus on the projects and work that matters to you (whether that’s a job, writing a novel, your family, or something else entirely), this non-fiction book is so good.

the boy who harnessed the wind young readers

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (Young Readers Edition) by William Kamkwamba & Bryan Mealer – ebook
You may already know this incredible story from the adult version of the book or the Netflix show. William Kamkwamba’s tiny Malawi village is struck by drought, which means that life looks terribly bleak. And then William – looking through the science books at the  tiny village library – stumbles on the idea to build a windmill to bring electricity to his family.

the girl you left behind

The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes – audiobook
I read this about a decade ago and loved it. It has two timelines, one during World War I and one in the present, and both love stories connect through a portrait. Definitely a fascinating, engaging read.

The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles – audiobook
I gifted Bart a copy of this book for Christmas a few years ago after he read A Gentleman in Moscow by the same author. It’s 1954, and 18-year-old Emmett Watson is driven home by the warden after serving time in a Kansas youth facility. Emmett needs to tie up his late father’s estate and plans to leave town and start fresh with his little brother. This one is full of a whole lot of adventure.

The Summer of Yes by Courtney Walsh – audiobook
Courtney Walsh is beloved by readers who want clean romance. This is her newest title – it was just released a month ago about an editor who is ready for a summer of yeses after having a near-death experience.
