A Whirlwind Weekend in Fort Worth, TX

1. I’d take you out for queso, margaritas, and dinner at Joe T. Garcia’s.
You can order whatever you want, but be warned the menu only has
fajitas and enchiladas on it. Don’t worry, you won’t leave feeling
deprived. We’ll sit outside (well, if you visit in April or October) and
enjoy the mariachi band as they pass by.

2. It’s famous for a reason! You shouldn’t miss The Fort Worth Stockyards,
where you can buy yourself a pair of cowboy boots, pick up a cold beer,
stop in the Cowboy Hall of Fame, or take a spin on the dance floor at Billy Bob’s, the world’s largest honkytonk.

3. Calories don’t count on vacation, so we’ll take a short drive to my town and stop for ice cream and candy at Hey Sugar.

4. The weather is (hopefully) perfect and getting outdoors is a
must. We’ll take advantage of the (again, hopefully) gorgeous day at the
Fort Worth Botanical Gardens or the Fort Worth Zoo. If the weather isn’t cooperating, or you visit during the horrible months we call summer, I’ll take you to the Kimball Art Museum.

5. You’re so fortunate to have a Cowtown insider showing you
around. The locals would stone me if I didn’t show you Sundance Square, where we’ll stop in Flying Saucer for one of the many beers on tap before seeing a show at Bass Performance Hall. If we’re feeling fancy afterward, we can have dinner at Reata, Grace, or Piranha Sushi. Or, if we’re not hungry but looking for a little jazz, we can walk a short block to the Scat Jazz Lounge.

6. You didn’t ask, but I’ll tell you anyway
that a trip to Fort Worth wouldn’t be complete without visiting
Spiral Diner,
one of DFW’s only all-vegan restaurants. You don’t have to be a
plant-eater to enjoy the delicious food here. It’s also very close to
one of my favorite yoga studios, Urban Yoga.
We can end your weekend with a feel-good work-out. Or, we could skip
all that good-for-you-stuff (you are on vacation after all) and head to
my favorite burger place, Fred’s Texas Cafe.
