12 Great Book Deals for a May Weekend
School is ALLLLLMOST out for us and with the 2025 Summer Reading Guide out in the world, I’m REALLY feeling ready for summer!
And, of course, I’m loading up on book deals – note that a lot of these are LibroFM titles which can be made into Yoto cards (directions here if you need them!)!

A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett
I hadn’t read this one in YEARS, but when Ella and I read it together, I fully understood why it is such a classic. It’s so fantastic and I can only hope my daughters grow up as well as Sara Crewe (hopefully without the orphan bit). (This one is a Libro.fm title, which means you can make it into a Yoto card!).
The Terrible Two by Mac Barnett & Jory John
Ella and I listened to it together several years ago (all of my kids went on and listened to the rest of them one million times) and it’s hilarious about two boys trying to out-prank each other. Now, all of my girls can recite pretty much the entire book from memory because they’ve listened to it so many times. (This one is a Libro.fm title, which means you can make it into a Yoto card!).
Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin
This was a GREAT book about a little girl, Minli, who sets out on a quest to find the Old Man on the Moon so she can find a fortune for her poor family. It was especially fun for my girls who are in a Mandarin Chinese immersion program at school. It’s full of little side stories that weave wonderfully into the main plot and gorgeous illustrations. Highly recommend.
The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits by Jennifer Weiner
This is one that I just started last week! Sisters Cassie and Zoe skyrocketed to fame as the Griffin Sisters in the early 2000s, only to vanish from the spotlight after a sudden and unexplained breakup. Now, two decades later, Zoe’s daughter is determined to uncover the truth, forcing all three women to reckon with the past.
Meet Me in the Margins by Melissa Ferguson
This is such a cute fun romance! An editor at Savannah’s dream publishing company is asking for the manuscript of a romance novel she has been secretly writing behind the scenes, while working at a different publishing company. She hides her manuscript in a hidden room, but later discovers someone has found it and started jotting very critical edits in the margins. This mystery editor is not only helping make her manuscript better, but could she be falling for him too?
Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper
On his eleventh birthday, Will Stanton discovers that he is one of the last of the Old Ones. Meaning he is immortal, and is dedicated to keeping the world safe from the forces of evil, called the Dark. His quest is to find the six magical Signs that will aid the Old Ones in the final battle between the Dark and the Light. On the twelve days of Christmas, while the Dark is rising, life for Will is full of wonder, terror, and delight.
Johnny Tremain by Esther Hoskins Forbes
This is a Newbery winner that I remember SO WELL from my own childhood – I’m still a little bit in mourning about Johnny’s accident! This American Revolution historical fiction title is about a young silversmith apprentice who finds his future altered overnight by a tragic accident but discovers new meaning as he gets involved with the Sons of Liberty.
The One and Only Ruby by Katherine Applegate
Her Newberry winning title, The One and Only Ivan, is absolutely phenomenal! This is the third book in the series and just as good. (This one is a Libro.fm title, which means you can make it into a Yoto card!).
Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B. Alston
I read this aloud to my children and we were all completely sucked in! Amari’s mourning the disappearance of her beloved older brother (the police say he’s almost certainly dead), but when she gets a pre-recorded message from him, she discovers that there is a supernatural world she’s known nothing about and that her brother was heavily involved before his disappearance. Joining this world isn’t going to be easy, but she’s willing to do whatever it takes to find out what happened to her brother. And she better mean it, because “whatever it takes” turns out to be a LOT. (This one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)
Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin
This is the same as the one above – just the audiobook version. (Plus, it is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)
Tap Code by Carlyle S. Harris & Sara W. Berry
If you haven’t read The Women by Kristin Hannah yet…well it graced my top books of 2024 as well as the Everyday Reading Community’s top books of 2024. And if you have read it and loved it, this nonfiction memoir is a great companion book about underground operations during the Vietnam War.
Bed-Knob and Broomstick by Mary Norton
Such a fun one for kids! Proper Miss Price is a witch-in-training whose magic is more quirky than polished. When three children discover her secret, they strike a deal that leads to wild, whimsical adventures on a flying brass bed—with plenty of magical mishaps along the way.
