9 January Weekend Book Deals

It’s a good weekend for book deals!

Lots of books I love and lots I’ve been meaning to read.

Also, I can’t fail to mention that the Kids Kindle is on sale right now for $30 off. This is the newest Kindle edition that came out late in 2024 and it wasn’t discounted for Prime Day, Black Friday, OR Cyber Monday, so I’m delighted to finally see it on sale! (The Kids Kindle is the exact same hardware as the Basic Kindle but it’s cheaper and includes a case and no ads, so I’d absolutely pick the Kids Kindle over the Basic Kindle – and yes, you can read adult books on it. Just sign in as an adult and there is literally no difference at all between the Kids and the Basic Kindle).

Thank You for Listening by Julia Whelan – ebook
I LOVE Julia Whelan’s new book that was all over the charts last summer. This book is especially fun because it’s all about the world of audiobook narrating. The main character, Sewanee, used to be an actress, but now she has moved into audiobook narrating. She got her start in romance novels which she’s decided to leave that behind her, but she gets roped into doing one last romance project. This final project ends up being with the most popular male audiobook narrator of the romance genre, Brock McKnight. Heads up for one brief open door scene.

Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss & Tahl RazNever Split the Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It by Chris Voss & Tahl Raz – audiobook
I feel like I should have taken notes so I could refer back to the main points in this book, both for my business and my parenting.

500 Miles from You by Jenny Colgan500 Miles from You by Jenny Colgan – audiobook
You may be familiar with Jenny Colgan from her beloved Little Beach Street Bakery books, but this one looks just as fun! A nurse from London and an ex-army medic from the Scottish Highlands switch jobs for three months. After endless emailing back and forth, feelings start to become a little more than just professional.

Yes Please by Amy PoehlerYes Please by Amy Poehler – audiobook
Best known for her work on Parks and Recreation and Saturday Night Live, Amy reveals personal stories and offers her humorous take on topics such as love, friendship, parenthood, and her relationship with Tina Fey.

The Enchanted Hour by Meghan Cox GurdonThe Enchanted Hour by Meghan Cox Gurdon – audiobook
Another week with this amazing sale! This feels like a more academic version of The Read-Aloud Family, with so much research behind why it matters so much to read to your children. I am IN LOVE with this book and can’t stop recommending it.

Carnegie’s Maid by Marie Benedict – ebook
A 19th century historical fiction novel, this book tells the story of Andrew Carnegie from the perspective of Clara Kelley, an Irish maid hired to work in one of Pittsburgh’s grandest households. So many people mentioned this as one of their favorite books of the year and I haven’t read any Marie Benedict books, so I’m excited to give this one a spin!

A Different Pond by Bao PhiA Different Pond by Bao Phi – audiobook
This was a 2018 Caldecott Honor book, but even though this is audio, the story itself is so sweet! Bao Phi really turns something as simple as fishing, into beautiful and eye-opening poetry about family and culture – I loved this book!

Book cover for The Enchanted Castle by Edith NesbitThe Enchanted Castle by Edith Nesbit – audiobook
I loved Five Children and It by the same author and have meant to read this one for years. This fantasy book is about four English children finding a world of magic through an enchanted wishing ring.

If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy – ebook
This is another book in the same series as By the Book by Jasmine Guillory. It’s a fairy tale retelling, however this is more of an “inspired by” rather than a full retelling of Cinderella. I loved By the Book and lots of people said this one was even better!
